All is not lost! I will be reposting information saved from the old forum when time permits!
Note: I edited the title to show just the movie name. This will help those who want to sort by 'Subject' to find a specific film. They might not know to look under 'T' for K3G - LH

Liked the second half of the movie compared to the first half. Loved seeing SRK and Kajol as a married couple.

The music is good, the song picturisations are excellent, and the chemistry between Kajol and SRK as an "old married couple" is wonderful! The lovely Jaya and Amitabh, the young Rahul (SRK son, right) and of course the gorgeous clothing and jewelry-this is one of my favorite films.

I have a love-hate relationship with this movie:
I loved everything except Hrithik and Kareena in the second half. The first half is absolutely wonderful, but I could have cared less about the relationship between Rohan and Poo.
Apart from a few songs, it's one of my favorite soundtracks, too.

WOW! Bollyscott, how did you manage to save so many of these threads? I feel like crying of joy thinking that we still have some of the threads from the old forum.
Love the first part with young Rahul and Anjali (Anjali was a hoot!
). Ah, and the best songs are in the first half too (Suraj Hua Matham, Say Shava Shava, Yeh Ladkhi Hai Allah). I actually loved the over-dramatic story, humongous sets and pompous (?) costumes. And the dances are some of my all time favorites. One of my favorite movies.

Really? You're one of the first people I've heard say they like the 2nd half better than the 1st. The Kareena/Hrithik did make the movie drag a bit. And grumpy Rahul was kind of a downer (until he busts a move in Bole Chudiya which brought me back to the first half again!)

Kareena's role was totally unnecessary (sp??). She was just there to help make the second half as light hearted as the first. If you ask me, SRK and Kajol were doing fine waaaaaaaaaaay before that. The Hrithik-Kareena side/love story, was a total hinderance in the plot. The movie could have been easily done in 2 1/2 hrs. or 3 hrs. instead of 4

You're right the Kareena/Hrithik part was unecessary to the story, but it gave the movie the light tone it needed to balance the serious emotional stuff. Plus, they made a good match, were entertaining, and had some good dance sequences.

I'm another one who loved the 1st half to the 2nd. After seeing this movie again and again, I have to say despite being a big Kajol fan I found her to be really annoying. I didn't like her in the 2nd half as much as the 1st.

I thought grumpy Rahul was adorable. Yea, the Hr/Kareena parts were boring, but then come the SRK/Kajol parts, which I love.
I do like the first half as well though.

This is my favorite BW film! I think SRK and Kajol share the best onscreen chemistry and I *love* Hrithik, so. However, even I admit that it has its flaws, and though it's my favorite, it's certainly not the best out there.
I'm going to have Bole Chudiyan stuck in my head all day now! Hehe.

My fav movie of all time! My cousins are total anti-bollywood(as in, there mother pushed and pushed for them to watch it when they were kids, so they are not too big fans of it!), but they saw this movie. They're opinion about it "It was cool, but we don't like indian movies, except for Amar Akbar Anthony."

Oh, goody, I will play devil's advocate here and say that I liked K3G the first time I watched it (although Kareena annoyed the hell out of me, and I skipped over all the muscle-flexing and booty shaking disco dances with HR and KK). But I have liked this film less each time I have watched it, til now I find I am grinding my teeth through nearly half of it...mainly the half that Kajol appears in. The first time I figured I was supposed to find her endearingly ditzy and funny, but each time I listen to her over the top screeching and "hee hee" ing it grates on me more, and her hateful Brit-bashing in the second half makes me cringe. I liked Kajol in DDLJ, but K3G made me realize that I have to take her on a movie-by-movie basis. She's definitely not one of my favorite actresses, not by a long shot.
On the other hand, Kareena grows on me each time I watch the film, and I've gone from finding her character exasperatingly obnoxious, to thinking she's hilarious. And I agree with whoever thought that the scenes with a grumpy, harassed Rahul drowning in a sea of estrogen are some of the best of the movie. I still have to fast forward through the HR/KK dances, though.

Thats why she was so good for that part! Kareena played a ditzy pooja really well i thought .. they got the message of a spoiled indian girl in england across well i thought.

Taken seriously it stinks but at as a Bollywood parody and self-parody it is brilliant
My dad rented this about a year ago because he heard about how people were singing along with Jana Gana Mana in Pakistan. I hadn't heard much about it aside from seeing the CD or DVD in the shops, so I watched it. My dad turned it off after about 10 minutes. Man, was this one corny film! Jaya Bachchan's hypertears, the super-large mansion, this was BW on overdrive. Poo was just a perpetuation of the stereotype of a "Westernized" girl as shallow, vain, and slutty, yet the film revels in its Western imagery. Kajol's dislike of the British was pretty funny. But when the Britishers started standing up and singing to the Indian national anthem, I lost it. That scene was hilariously bad.

The core of this movie is a family being torn apart and then reuniting. "It's all about loving your parents." That's why I love it.
As a young gay Asian male, I could relate to the family stuff because Amitabh's scene with SRK when SRK tells him about Kajol was almost word for word the rejection that took place when I tried coming out to my mom. I have posted elsewhere about how there is substantial additional evidence that in K3G, KJ is actually writing about "coming out to your parents".
Great movie, great movie ...
Aside from the family stuff, everything else about the movie is tasty, additional gravy! I liked Kareena as Poo ... She was right for the part. She also was not really portraying a slutty NRI, she was portraying a "valley girl"-type character. I felt her character was meant to be a general comedic stereotype rather than a "Westernized desi"-specific stereotype.

I agree with Jfung, this movie is a great family drama. and i'd say its the best Bollywood has to offer. Even if the family values are exaggerated ( I'm not sure if such respect for elders still holds in India today, or if its becoming more like the West), i think its still a great look at the Indian family. Plus, the movie is entertaining as hell. Its got something for those that like comedy, those that like to cry, those that enjoy colorful dances, those that like looking at attractive actors, etc. And so what if its unrealistic? Isn't that what makes Bollywood such a pleasure?

This movie is VERY over the top: surely, they needed a boat with the river of tears in this movie, and why is the family house the size of Switzerland? Why is Kajol screeching like she is on crystal meth?
This said, it's a fun piece of fluff, though it looks weaker and weaker with each viewing, unlike KKHH and KHNH which actually improve every time I see them. I find Kareena's character so gratingly annoying and over the top I fast forward whenever she is on screen (and I am a big Kareena fan) and the moment with the anthem rather cringingly embarassing. But then hey, it's a KJ flick and he is not known for being subtle.
And it does have quite a lot of good which outweighs the bad: great music and choreography and visuals. I love the opulent look of this movie. I love the SRK-Kajol jodi as always (Suraj Hua Maddam, wow!), and I love that they get to portray a married couple. I love Hrithik's hotness and understated acting. I love the secret brother subplot, the Jaya-Amitabh interactions, I loooooove the soundtrack and picturizations (except for the awful orgy of vinil that is "You are My Sonia"). I even love the fact that Amitabh apologizes, as he should.
Is it the best Bollywood ever? No. But is it good? Yeah, I think so.
Btw, Karan seems to be fond of benevolent schemers in his movies. It's little Anajali in KKHH, Hrithik in K3G and SRK in KHNH.
