I might need an intervention.

Yeah, your obsession is slipping - such a small order.

My list at Induna is growing and growing, but I can't order until the end of the summer. (Tight finances and I don't have a credit card so I can't do it the American way - you know, putting off really paying for it.)

I've got 22 items in my cart and it's only $122. Shocked

Undecided I've heard some pretty bad things about this movie (mostly to the effect of, cast is good, but plot is annoying and depressing), but if it works out for you maybe I'll give it a try. Cheesy

I`ll surely send you a msg when I`ve watched it. I do think it will be sort of sexist since part of the story is wife vs husband ( as in the wifes going to a feministgroup and start acting a bit over their head and the poor poor husbands has to take back control  Undecided )

I'm pretty sure kmemphis has seen Pati Patni, so maybe ask her for the scoop on it. Someone on Memsaab's blog once described it as an "ode to misogyny", so go in with your eyes open.  Smiley

Yes, I saw kmemphis's comment in the "Movies You've Watched" thread, and I had seen similar comments about it on either Memsaab's or Beth's blog.  Was just indicating that I'd be interested in Usha's thoughts when they became available.  Grin

Yeah, I'd love to see Usha's take on it... if she doesn't break the DVD into 50 pieces first.

Oh, and Nanda was in Gumnaam, which was much much better because of Helen/Miss Kitty! And the fact that the plot wasn't degrading helped.

After this thread popped up and I read it (why read what others are buying when I'm broke? Cry) and was reminded of that movie again.

Now I HAVE to see Shaadi Kar Ke... because it's supposed to be incredibly sexist and I'd love to see it live down to my expectations. Evil

But yes, I can say conclusively that Pati Patni is a piece of shit. If you think women are equal to men (or in Blanche's words, better than them), it will offend you. It's not a side track or one scene, it's the premise of the movie! And no, age doesn't excuse its vile sexism - Mother India and Shree 420 were not sexist, and featured strong women who were not punished for it. (Life may have been hard for Nargis in MI but it seemed hard for everyone who worked in that village and didn't steal - covertly or overtly.)

And no, for those who haven't seen it, it is not so bad it's good. It's just bad.

Now I`m really looking forward to watch Pati Patni  Tongue I guess I`ve to have a very broad mind while watching that movie, I even took offence watching Mr and Mrs 55 and this boring movie called Ladki Ladka where the brother tries to find a husband for his widowed sister and would take every idiot he finds that agrees. Doesn`t matter if he got the IQ of a worm, aslong as the sister gets married  Roll Eyes

I promise I`ll watch Pati Patni first, before eventually breaking it in rage  Tongue

PR, no need to feel ashamed.  Just think of this this way, this is the first set of SI films I have bought in all my working life, which is nearing 22 years.  So, this would be about one movie every two years.

Badal (1966)
Ek Paheli (1971)
Charitraheen (1974)

I wasn't *planning* on buying anything this month, after the epic Induna purchase from last month.  But I finally watched the last film (NVND) from that purchase, then discovered that a certain site had Badal back in stock, and well...you can't maximize your value/shipping costs ratio at that place unless you're buying in multiples of three (at least, if you're in the US).
