South Indian Film Stars For The Uninitiated.

As suggested by Nalim and seconded by Daniel in the 'Trisha' thread, here it is, a thread dedicated to South Indian film stars. Needless to say it is not complete and you may find that your favourite pic of your favourite actor and actress in not here. There is a solution to this, of course, and that is post it or make a request.
Update 25nd February 2006
: Hopefully, everyone should be able to read this thread whatever your browser. The Guys and Gals threads have been split into A-M, N-Z posts and are currently on this page, with the Comedians and Supporting Actors on Page 2. Keep scrolling down. If anyones post seems unconnected, that's my fault not that of the posters.

Chiranjeevi;
Giselle will kill me if I don't post a pic of Chiru, big in Telugu cinema.
Well, I might have gently reminded you of your glaring omission.
Here’s my own little contribution to this thread:
Vijayashanti (or Vijayshanti)
Sometimes referred to as “Amitabh Bachchan of the South,” she is known primarily as an action film heroine in the Telugu industry. Has slowed down in recent years. I have yet to see one of her films but I really, really want to.
Khushboo
So popular in her 80’s-early 90’s heyday, fans built a temple in her honor. She retired after she got “married” to director Sundar C (whoI think was already married--shades of Sridevi). Primarily a Tamil star, I think. Has done serials and game shows since retirement.
Sunil
Sunil (Suneel) is a Telugu comic relief actor, kinda like Johnny Lever. I almost went nuts trying to find his name when I was writing my Tagore review, so here you go!
Mallikharjuna (Left) & Sunil (Right)

Heroes prefer Bombay Babes?
By Nihar Aman
Jul 7, 2005, 09:13
The evolution of Telugu film industry is getting much worse by day. Especially, in the section of female artistes, the situation is very appalling. These days, you hardly find actresses rather you encounter ‘dumb models’ masquerading as heroines who treat Telugu films as a money spinning avenues. These imported girls from Mumbai hardly utter a Telugu word properly save a heroine or two.
In the early days, Telugu filmmakers used to take the artists who could sing and speak Telugu perfectly, as there was no playback system as such. When the playback system began using, artists started dubbing their voices for dialogues and singers were roped in. As the technology improved, filmmakers began hiring non-Telugu girls for Telugu films as heroines. And now the ‘non-Telugu girls’ completely encroached the system and ruling the roost.
Now the trend is any heroine who speaks Telugu is not worthy of playing in big films. The pre-qualification these days for a heroine is that she should a non-Telugu speaker and preferably come from Mumbai and possess milky-white skin.
Check any Telugu film now, you will have at least a girl (model) from Mumbai and tries to the audience with her dumb expressions but readily shows off her body liberally.
And they charge not less than Rs 25 lakhs per a film. In case of an established (means acting in one or two films in Hindi), the remuneration would skyrocket to as much as Rs One crores.
For Narasimhudu, Mumbai model and actress Sameera Reddy has received about Rs 50 lakhs as remuneration not to add other perks. Amisha Patel has charged Rs 75 lakhs for the same film.
And the producers’ woes do not stop here. He will have to borne other expenses of these bimbettes.
Once a Hindi heroine signs a contract, the producers need to book the flight tickets to four people from Mumbai, (heroine personal make-up person, one guardian or boyfriend sometimes and her secretary). Once she lands in Hyderabad she cannot stay in any place other then five star hotel, and her accompanies will also need to be near to her. So the producers would end up booking two double bedrooms in a five star hotel, which cost a him/her few more lakhs.
Once they are done with the accommodation other things like food and entertainments come into the picture. When they are in the shooting they will not have anything other than the fresh juices, food mostly consisting of exotic fruits should come from five star restaurants.
Then the producer have to pay the bills of their spa and gym, when they are in the shooting days, which adds couple of more lakhs to the producer.
And not to forget the expensive costumes; all the heroines want their own costume designers for the film, which will dent a big hole in producer’s pocket.
Even if the producers like to pay these ‘petty amounts’, they will surely end up paying more for film rolls for many a Bollywood heroine normally eat the takes as if they are eating cakes.
We cannot blame them, as they do not understand the language.
Once the shoot part is over, then comes the post-production comes into the picture. We have set of dubbing artist who dubs for the heroines and another set for the remaining artists. Close your eyes listen to the voices of the heroines in five films, they all sound same, and we do not know which artist is the heroine in the film. Because there are two or three major dubbing artistes who by and large dub the female voices of almost all our heroines.
The question looms large is why are our producers are running after these Bombay Babes?
Well, one of the prime reasons our heroes prefer Bombay Babes to ‘local girls’ (read Telugu girls).
Recently a big hero (whose career is on the downslide) hell-bent on casting a particular ‘dusky beauty’ from Mumbai in his one of proposed films. When the director refused to cast her in, the film was shelved. That is how the industry works now.
And another reason is they are liberal in the skin show; they do not have qualms in exposing.
That is fine to some extent. But can these girls guarantee a film’s success? No. Nowhere you can find a film that ran because of heroine’s ‘skin show’ or charisma.
On the other side of the coin, there are some Mumbai heroines who are trying to learn Telugu and settling in Hyderabad to not to make producer’s life a misery. Sada speaks Telugu very well and has bought a house near Mehdipatnam. She is yet to dub her voice, though. Charmi is almost settled here and on the verge of dubbing her voice.
It is a good sign actually. Still, our heroes and filmmakers ask the producers to go for the dates of Bollywood heroines in their films.

Just watch any of Danush's films and your liking for him will fly far far away. Its not his fault really, but he is in some really low class films. His build doesn't allow him to be a hero in normal movies.
