Hello, guys  Smiley

I'm Carol, a Psychology student from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (yeah, that Dhoom 2 place). My sweet love story with Bollywood started in 2009, when I heard Kal Ho Naa Ho playing on my Last Fm radio and fell in love with the song. I found it was the title song from a movie, cried a lot reading the movie's Wikipedia, watched the movie, then others...and here I am, 3 years , 300 movies later and still in love with Bollywood (and sometimes with Kolly and Tolly, too).

I'm member of an Orkut community called "Quero Cinema Indiano no Brasil" (I Want Indian Cinema in Brazil) that grows stronger day by day, specially after that soap opera, "Caminho das Índias" (India - A Love Story). We translate subtitles from English To Portuguese, since it's almost impossible finding Indian movies here. Till now, we translated more than 300 movies with our little group of 10 or more legenders. Recently, some cable TV channels like MaxPrime started transmiting some Bolly movies and QCINB got new members because of that. The channel is on a Shahrukh Khan moment and showed Veer-Zaara and Devdas, but My Name Is Khan is one of the most beloved SRK movies here. 3 Idiots got famous by word of mouth, but Taare Zameen Par truly is the most known Indian movie here, all thanks to a friend of mine. There are even schools where it's mandatory for teachers to watch it.

I love old and new Bollywood, but there are few people here who likes the old ones...and that makes me sad. An example: I translated the not so cool Action Replayy and it's one of my most famous movies, everyone looks for it (since Aishwarya is like a diva here). But my favorite subtitles, like Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Aradhana and even Junoon (!), have 9 or 10 downloads. But I will keep on translating them.

My English is not all that, but I hope that being here will help me improving it the same way watching Bolly movies, reading Bolly blogs and translating Bolly movies did. 3 years ago, I wouldn't be able even to write something like this or reading this forum's messages. Bollywood - changing lives, hahahaha!

Hope we can have great discussions!

Welcome Carol!
That is so amazing that your group is translating the films, and even better that your enthusiasm is starting to build more einterest in Braz(s)il!

I'm looking forward to your thoughts on Bollywood, new and old, and especially the films that feature Brazil and Latin America.

Welcome Carol! Smiley Looks like you took it onto yourself to spread the bolly awareness around you, well done Wink And I translate subtitles too!! Grin I've noticed that people give a chance to those movies I also review, so maybe it would help if you run a Brazil blog with reviews and recommendations Smiley

What southie movies have you seen? Have you translated any yet? I started watching them about 2 years ago and oldies only recently - there's still so much to discover! Smiley

Welcome, Carol!  I'm so glad you've joined BollyWhat, and I look forward to reading your posts!

That is great that you have been translating the subtitles into Portuguese!  I am really impressed.  And it's so nice to hear about the popularity and impact of Taare Zameen Par there.  I wonder if Aamir Khan knows about it?

Welcome,Carol!
What a wonderful way to spread your Bolly love - by translating!
I translate too but just from Hindi to English.  If there's anything you need clarifications for, don't hesitate to ask.
Looking forward to your posts.

Thanks for such a warm welcome, guys!

Welcome Carol! That is impressive that there is so many of you working so hard to translate the films. Who are  your favorite Heros and Heroines?

I like almost everyone. Maybe my favorites are Waheeda, Madhuri, Neetu, Rishi, Shabana, Madhavan, Shahid (yeah) and Shahrukh.

I have a blog, but it's much more "my happy place" than a serious blog...hahahah! But now people are actually reading it! This week I made a "Female Power Week" with others friends who also have blogs and it was great. We reviewed movies like Fire, Astitva, Arth and Paheli.

I've seen Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, Bommarillu, Alaipayuthey, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya...and I forgot the others. I translated only NVNV, all the others were translated by Joseli, a friend of mine. People are loving them, specially those who have Siddhart

I don't think he does  Undecided But he will, I know that. The movie popularity is just growing bigger and bigger. Last year Anurag Kashyap came here for some big event in São Paulo, maybe he told Aamir about that!  Tongue

Great to read some words in Portuguese here! Translating is not easy, but people feel so happy when we finish a subtitle that it makes up for all our effort.

Welcome Carol! You seem to be a Waheeda fan like many other members of the board - myself included. What are your favorite Waheeda films/performances?

She's a big diva! It's amazing to find more fans.

I think my favorite performance of hers, ever, is Jabba from Sahib Biwi Aur Gulam. After that, maybe Rosie from Guide and Madhavan's mother in Rang De Basanti. The latter is a very dear character to me, since it made me start liking her and search for her older works.

Ah, I love Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam. One of my favorite films! Have you seen Teesri Kasam? That's probably one of Waheeda's best performances.

I must admit: I love Jabba much nore than Chhoti Bahu. SBAG is also a favorite of mine!

I saw Teesri Kasam and her performance was great as always, but that movie didn't leave a deeper impression on me. Maybe it's was Raj's character, so annoying (he did the same kind of character a lot of times). But her sweet restlessness is one of my best memories of the movie.
