I was really pissed off about this article and I do not want to go into a rant.  I like my ipod, but I swear I don't ever want to buy  another apple product again if I can avoid it.  But if you think I am just a ranter, so be it.  There were plenty of comments about this article on slashdot.org, some more condemning of apple than I would even make:

Its not just apple products, almost all products made in china are made in similar conditions. Why do you think all the manufacturing jobs went to china?

But Apple is such an arrogant example of the ungratefulness of a corporation that was grown and nurtured on American know how and is sitting on 100 billion dollars of cash that doesn't think it has any obligation ot America.  Well fine, then don't take our tax subsidies and pay your taxes or just move the whole bloody company  out of here and go to Asia  Don't depend on our Navy to keep your products safe in the shipping lanes.  Don't use our infrastructure for free.  Stop taking our taxpayer dollars.

Here is a relevant article on this topic from Chris Hedges about corportations needing no borders:

Apple is a corportation. It is not "arrogant" and It does not have to be "grateful" to anyone.

If you would like the tax rules changed, complain to the government. No point in getting angry at apple for using the existing loop holes.
What do you want them to do, distribute the 100 billion dollars to every family in the US? They are clearly saving it to make strategic purchases and future R&D.

As for moving the manufacturing to the US, it is impossible to manufacture in the scale and volume needed to keep up with the demand for apple products here in the US.

About the working conditions - it must be so horrible that thousands of people are lining up to get a job a foxconn. Clearly it must be one of the better jobs out there in China.

Wait till apple replaces all these workers with robots, which will happen sooner than you might think. Maybe all the complainers who are sitting in their comfy western homes and typing in their made-in-china computers can provide them with jobs then.

Corporations are people my friends and they can be arrogant and ungrateful.  If they are people then they can have the attributes of people.  Yes it is true that the government has had a hand in all of this unfortunately in the last 30 or so years, but things will change.  Natural persons will wake up to the fact that these nationless corporations are not their friends and only want to hurt them.
