Projection Booth Announces Partnership with Eros International, MyBindi for “Bollywood Basement” Film SeriesLong before it was Projection Booth, 1035 Gerrard Street East was The Sri Lakshmi, home to Bollywood films in the 1970s and ‘80s. During the renovation process, co-owners Nadia Sandhu and Jonathan Hlibka found a treasure trove of old Bollywood film reels in the theatre’s basement, inspiring the new “Bollywood Basement” series.
Every Sunday at 6pm, Projection Booth will showcase landmark films from the Eros International Catalogue. From sweeping epics to more populist fare, films from every era will be presented as they were meant to be seen- on the big screen, with a big crowd.
“We are doing something truly unique here. Cinemas the world over have been giving Hollywood films second and third runs for decades, but Projection Booth is the very first theatre in the world to dedicate itself to landmark and classic films from India and Bollywood,” says co-owner Jonathan Hlibka.
For Projection Booth co-owner and Bollywood Basement programmer Nadia Sandhu, the series has a personal connection: “Gerrard St. E has been an integral part of the Canadian experience for countless GTA South Asian families like mine, and we want to restore cinema to its rightful place in that tradition of shopping, dining and entertainment at the Gerrard India Bazaar.”
To that end, receipts from the following businesses can be redeemed at Projection Booth for 2 for 1 admission to Bollywood Basement:

I'm really looking forward to seeing some of these older movies on the big screen, it's going to be neat!
