According to our boyfriend Ali Zafar on twitter, he went directly from the shoot of LPNY to this.

Ali Zafar Turns Down the Role of a Gigolo for an Upcoming Film
10th November 2011
Posted by Faiz

The prince of pop, Ali Zafar is getting a lot of offers from Bollywood these days. He was recently offered the role of a male prostitute (sometimes known as a “gigolo”) by a producer who insisted that he was perfect for the part. According to TOI, Ali turned the role down even when the producer of the film offered to pay him whatever fee he demanded. It seems Ali is at the moment not looking for such serious roles.

Ali, who recently got done with the shooting of his big Bollywood project with Fox Star Studios, started working on his next. He tweeted,

“London, Paris, New York! Lovely experience shooting with lovely people Goldie Behl, Shrishti Arya, Anu, Aditi (Rao Hydari), Sameer Arya, Vivek and the whole crew. From LPNY straight to Chashme Buddoor. During flight character mein aana paray ga.”

He just began shooting for his new Bollywood romantic-comedy ‘Chashme Buddoor’ which is a remake of an ’80s Classic’ of the same name. Ali Zafar will be playing the lead role which was previously played by Farooq Shaikh. David Dhawan is directing the film.

The film is about three students; Siddharth (Ali Zafar), Omi (Sonu Nigam) and Jai (Siddharth Narayan) at Delhi University, who don’t go home during summer vacation and how a girl Neha comes in their life. The film will also star Risi Kapoor in a role which was previously played by Saeed Jaffrey.

By looking at the kind of choices he is making, it seems Ali will not play a serious character in a film anytime soon!

Siddharth and Taapsee's Bollywood plans
Nov 15, 2011

Taapsee is off to Mumbai to shoot for her Hindi film, Chashme Baddoor to be directed by David Dhawan. It is a remake of a classic comedy released in 1981. Word is that Siddharth will be the seen in the film. Pakistani singer, Ali Zafar and Sonu Nigam will also be sharing screen space with them.

Siddharth is no stranger in Bollywood having delivered hits like Rang De Basanti and a well appreciated performance in Striker. Taapsee however will be making her debut and she is very excited.

AAAAARGGGGHHH!!!! Who can boil in oil the buffoon that let unfunny sleazebag David Dhawan get his grubby tawdry mitts on Chashme Buddoor? Dhawan is to funny as  interstellar space is to hot. And why no mention of who will take the Deepti Naval role?

Yep exactly. And the fact there's an unknown newbie for the female lead suggests another dhawan disaster, unfunny and misogynistic. Time to rewatch the original.

Taapsee has already starred in a number of south-indian films, I just haven't seen any of them.

By the way, since when is Sonu Niigam acting??

And I'll probably still end up watching this Sad

He starred in the awful Love in Nepal a while back, which sank without trace. He is to acting what Himesh Reshammiya is to, er, acting.

Anyone know when the soundtrack is being released? I am sure it will be very soon, but I have not been able to find a date anywhere. On that note, anyone know when the trailer will be released? I read an article that said the beginning of July (how's that for vaguely specific  Tongue ).

I hope this is an occasion for every Bollywhat member to make it a point to see the original if you haven't - if only to enrich the discussion when this comes out.  I love Deepti Naval and I love the original, and I don't love David D, so not optimistic but probably will see it to be in the conversation!

If I'm watching this movie, it's only because of Ali Zafar and Siddharth. Cannot miss out on a chance to see them in the same frame.

Darshana you are so right. I think everyone should watch the original first. I love to read a book and then watch the film make of a book. It brings so much to a film. It can also tell you how much the director was really paying attention or even cared about the book. So if you have not watch the original DO PLEASE!! It is a wonderful film.

I am also mostly looking forward to the Zafar/Siddharth jodi! I am not going to go in with expectation, just to see how those two interact on screen will be great fun, I believe!

And here are a few pics I found.

The original is so brilliant. I love Deepti Naval and Farookh Sheikh in it. I saw it not too long ago and felt most of the film holds up really well even today. I can't imagine what David Dhawan would do with this. And from what I can tell they haven't shot this version on location right? One of the best things about the original is that you get to see bits of delhi the way it was in the 1980s, especially north campus. Uggh so disappointed.

The original IDEA might have some legs - if somebody writes a good script - as it involves several guys telling the tale of their interacton with the attractive neighbor girl, and each guy makes himself a fim hero of one type or another in his telling.
I can think of potential fun here -- like with a Dabanggish version plus a DDLJ version plus etc.

Truly.  Smiley  I had never heard of the original, but I like the idea of the story.  Maybe this won't be Oscar-worthy but we can still hope that it will be good fun! Fingers crossed.

Forgive my ignorance, but is that Sonu Nigam in the light blue shirt (in the pic where Ali is wearing boxers)?

The pictures are pretty cute. I love Ali Zafar's look in the blue shirt & pink tie and the plaid coat look.

Who's the girl? She seems very young. Almost teenager-like.

That's Tapsee, she's been in mostly SI films, I think this is her first Hindi film.

This is looking more or less criminally bad to me, especially in relation to the original.

Can you tell who is the sane, quiet, studious one? they seem interchangeable, the males.  Also is that one girl or several?  I can't tell!!
