SRK Interviews - please help to translate the Hindi bits!

This is the link to the recent SRK-Interview “I work for neither posterity nor prosperity: SRK“, which I‘ve also posted in the Bollywhat Interview Archives (on Nov.08, 2011). It contains quite a lot of phrases in Hindi.
I think, it would be a great help if these phrases could be translated. Any input will be greatly appreciated!
B.t.w. Vinita has already has had a go with one passage (s. “Miscelaneous Hindi Queries“ p.229) - Thank you very much, Vinita, for this one - and hopefully more  !

I like to think of them as nazarbattoos - tils. Woh kehte hain na, tere chehre pe yeh jo kaala sa til hai, lagta hai daulat-e-husn pe darbaan bitha rakha hai. So yeh jo negative baatein karte hain mere baare me, yeh mere daulat-e-husn ke darbaan hain, mujhe nazar lagne se bachate hain.
(Vinita:) I like to think of them as protection from the evil eye - black marks.  They say, the black mark on your face, looks like (darbaan=doorkeeper, watchman, guardian) sitting on the wealth of your beauty. So those who say these negative things about me, they are the (darbaan)  of the wealth of my beauty , they save me from the evil eye.  ->suggestion: ... looks like a guardian sitting by the wealth of your beauty

There was a line in Trimurti- it wasn't shot in the film- I liked it a lot: "Whoever you see wants to be my father"...

Yeah.  I think the translation should go something like this:
They say, the black mark on your face, looks like a guardian of the wealth of your beauty. 
So, those who say these negative things about me, they are the guardians of the wealth of my beauty, they protect me from the evil eye.

Farida, you might want to give some context when you want something translated. Translation of interviews is very context dependent.


If someone were to give me the choice between giving up all my cars and my money and giving up acting, I'd say, yaar, acting karte rahenge, will let those go.

This would translate to: Buddy,(I'll) keep acting.

As opposed to:

...
I'd say, yaar, acting karte rahenge,
I'd say, buddy, just keep on acting
...

Yes, in context, that makes sense. I actually haven't read the article, just the lines posted here, so context could change some of the translations. I should have stated that before.

Vinita, that's a nice suggestion, but I wouldn't know how to do that. And besides, I've got the impression that according to the rules the Interview Archives site should be free of any additions like comments etc.
But as SRK really likes to spice up his interviews with words / phrases / sentences / passages / quotations in Hindi which some of us would like to be able to fully understand, this thread here could be used for questions on other interviews as well, hai na ?

I actually just read the article with that specific part. I think the interviewer is referring to the other Khans: Aamir (whose family is originally from Afghanistan), Salman (Afghani descent) and Saif (Pataudi is in Haryana).

Like konkanikudi mentioned, one doesnt have to be a pakistani to win the award. I think what the interviewer meant was why Shahrukh is generally considered so much more worthy of the award compared to the other khans.

I've seen this comment more than once, about Pakistan not attacking India because SRK lives there:

Chopra quotes the director Mahesh Bhatt declaring that Pakistan will never go to war with India because Shah Rukh lives there. It's hardly an overstatement. Despite the banning of Indian films in Pakistan, SRK's videos are everywhere, and you can't walk through a bazaar without seeing his photograph every few steps. In Afghanistan under the Taliban, when all movies were forbidden, Shah Rukh's movies circulated widely in a samizdat-style system.

According to Wikipedia Morarji Ranchhodji Desai, the fourth Prime Minister of India from 1977–79, was conferred with Nishaan-e-Pakistan (Order of Pakistan) in 1990 for his peace initiatives between Pakistan and India to avoid conflicts, such as Indo-Pakistani war of 1971.
Desai is the first Indian national to receive the highest civilian awards from both India and Pakistan, the Bharat Ratna and Nishaan-e-Pakistan.
Actor Dilip Kumar was the second Indian to receive the Nishaan-e-Pakistan Award (1997).

But when the of Shiv Sena leader Thackeray dubbed Shah Rukh as "self-proclaimed Nishan-e-Pakistan" this wasn't meant as complimentary! He wanted to tag SRK as not being a good Indian!
This phrase made headlines in various online news magazines.-  e.g. dnaindia.com, oneindia.in,  bhaskar.com,  india-forums.com,  moneycontrol.com,  indianexpress.com, - on television (hence some youtube.com appearances), and certainly in many printed newspapers.
The article itself explained it as  “Taking a dig at Shah Rukh -- who had earned Thackeray's wrath for endorsing inclusion of Pakistani cricketers in the IPL “.
Do you remember the nasty hate campaign around the release of “My Name is Khan“ in Feb. 2010, when Shiv Sena activists tore down MNIK posters and picketed Mumbai Movie Theatres to prevent people from watching the film? The movie goers even had to be protected by the police!
This time around Thackeray wanted again to raise doubts as to SRKs indian loyalties. At the same time negative reports on Ra.One were being launched.
Maybe you could say “Once a target, always a target“.
The other actors named Khan are either not in Shiv Sena's line of vision, keeping a low profile, or maybe attempting to pacify them.
