Arjun Kapoor already has a super sleazy image for the whole Malaika affair, but it's Habib Faisal. And the poster is awesome!

Yash Raj Films’ ISHAQZAADE: Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra’s first look
October 16th, 2011

Yash Raj Films’ new project has gone on the floors today

Aditya Chopra’s new production, Ishaqzaade, starring Boney Kapoor’s son Arjun Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra’s cousin Parineeti Chopra has commenced shooting. The film is being directed by Habib Faisal – the director of the award-winning film Do Dooni Chaar and writer of the Yash Raj’s blockbuster, Band Baaja Baaraat that made a star out of Ranveer Singh.

Ishaqzaade is a YRF style love story, explained thus by the makers: ‘Rising from the ashes of hooliganism and small town clan wars, comes the love story of a passion ignited by hatred. Two people. Born to hate. Destined to love.’ The film’s tagline goes: Ishaqzaade hain jitne fasano mein, milte hain kahan ab jahanon mein.

The team: Hemant Chaturvedi (Company – 2002, Maqbool – 2004 and Kurbaan – 2009) is the DOP. Amit Trivedi (National & Filmfare Award for Dev.D and Filmfare Award for Udaan – 2010 and acclaimed musical score for No One Killed Jessica – 2011) is composing the music with lyrics by Kausar Munir (Tashan – 2008). Mukund Gupta, who won the award for Best Production Designer for Do Dooni Chaar, has been roped in. Aarti Bajaj (Do Dooni Chaar – 2010, Jab We Met – 2007, Dev.D – 2009, No One Killed Jessica – 2011, Rockstar – 2011, apart from several others) will be editing the film. Rekha and Chinni Prakash, National Award winners for Jodhaa Akbar and with a long list of outstanding achievements credited to their names over the years, are choreographing the film. And Sham Kaushal, greatly respected and much awarded for Krrish and Kaminey, is the action director.

Habib Faisal back behind the camera
Garima Sharma, TNN | Oct 16, 2011

After directing "Do Dooni Chaar" and working with Maneesh Sharma on "Band Baaja Baaraat" and "Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl", Habib Faisal is all set to direct his next "Ishaqzaade".

The movie will also be the launchpad for Boney Kapoor's son Arjun Kapoor, who will feature alongside Parineeti Chopra, cousin of A-lister Priyanka Chopra. Shooting for this Yash Raj film has already started and it's expected to be a May 2012 release. the movie is the story of two lovers set within the confines of clan wars and politically inclined rural India. Follow the story of the ishaqzaade's as their turbulent journey unfolds in the often unrealistic and daunting political confines of rural India. Besides Faisal, the team also includes Hemant Chaturvedi.

Totally agree about the poster. The description sounds like any number of c. 1999 Tamil and Telugu films I've been watching lately. Wink

Habib Faisal + Amit Trivedi? Sign me up!

I think its also very promising that YRF is making a mediu budget film with two newcomers: it looks like they are hoping the superior quality of the film will overcome the lack of star power, just like Band Baaja Baraat did. The poster is fabulous, and it sounds like the movie is going to be an entertaingly pulpy love story.  Kiss

Fun.... like the preview. like the stylized look and the overall premise. plus parineeti chopra looks a real person - not a pretty plastic doll in designer clothes and fashion shoot style. so sick of those!

Um, I cannot add anything productive to the discussion.  Tongue This just looks SO good!!! Parineeti's role looks awesome and the new Kapoor looks very promising (it always irks me when the new star child is revealed and they seem to have NOTHING to offer, it's just like a slap in the face).  I've really been wanting to see a gun-toting BW heroine, now finally my prayers are answered.  Cheesy I'm so excited for this now!

Ooh, and directed by Habib Faisal?!  Cheesy He's such an adorable little man  Grin.

Looks like it may be Parineeti's break through feature. Could put her in the EXTREMELY exclusive below 25 A-List. She excites me.

I echo all the above. Super excited to see Parineeti, and I like the look of the new guy too. If anyone could translate 'Ishaqzaade' and the final dialogue on the motorbike? Do we have a hint of who they are or why the violence?

If anyone could translate 'Ishaqzaade'

It is a made up word like "Ishqiya".

"Ishaq" is "ishq" or "love" and "zaade" means "offspring(s)".  So it means offspring(s) of love.

I think my saturday craft project might be to make myself a pair of Dabangg sweatpants.

Also, when Arjun Kapoor smiles he of sort of looks like AB jr like in his Yuva days.

I like the trailer! Two normal looking people playing lead roles is rare these days in BW. Parineeti looks adorable and seems to be talented. I have not seen Ladies vs Ricky Bhel but I have only heard wonderful things about her.

In the trailer they use Ishaqzade as a play on haramzade. Haramzada is an abuse.
The trailer looks good, hope the movie lives up to it.
Am once again disappointed by Yash Raj's casting through connections instead of open auditions.

Parineeti is Priyanka's cousin but that hardly makes her an insider in the industry. In fact, she is supposed to have started as an AD in the Chopra camp before she was cast in films. So, it is unfair to lump her in the same category as Arjun Kapoor who obviously comes from a film family.

And yes, the nepotism is bothersome especially when a powerful production house like Yash Chopra engages in it. They can afford to spend time auditioning aspiring actors.

It's hard for me to imagine a situation in any film industry where the leads of a major film would be cast through open auditions. For instance, Jennifer Lawrence is a "new" actress. She was probably one of several people who read for the lead in "The Hunger Games", but that was a select, invited group, not "open auditions."

Perhaps not open auditions, but as this is a movie for which they want new faces they could have scouted theatre and acting schools.

According to wiki, Parineeti started out in marketing & PR for Yash Raj Films.
Arjun's IMDb page goes back to 2002. He has been credited as both an AD and an executive producer.
