I'm a white boy from California, and ever since my friends showed me the show "Outsourced" I have been hooked on anything Indian-related including BW movies.  I loved almost every movie I have seen of Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor, and Sonam Kapoor.  Mostly stream these movies from Netflix, but have also had some delivered in mail.  A list of my favorites (in no particular order):

What's Your Raashee?
Jab We Met
Chup Chup Ke
I Hate Luv Storys
Bachna Ae Haseeno
Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na
Wake Up Sid
Fashion
Pyaar Impossible

Welcome to the forum. Once you're hooked, you can look forward to tons of entertainment, so much that you'll never ever run out - except money and time to watch, that is. What part of California are you from?

This is a great place to learn more and get recommendations for about everything under the sun when you get addicted. Lots of great people here. Enjoy and welcome again!

LOL! LOL!  You're very witty  Smiley

and a Hello and Welcome from an NRI  Cheesy

This forum is great, some very interesting threads and it can also get quite addictive.  I myself prefer the older moves, say from the late 1960s and 1970s.
The movie Oustourced is funnier than the TV series.

What do you love about the Bollywood movies in particular?

Welcome, Anbuzan! I love that Netflix has been such a good resource for people who didn't even start off being Indian film lovers. Hope to see you around the forum.

I saw Outsourced movie after watching the TV series.  And I love Bollywood movies because they have awesome music (I love soundtrack music).  And I especially love bhangra, and most movies are positive and upbeat.  They are also wholesome and not crude or dirty like some American movies.

What part of California are you from?

I live in Fresno.  I have been to this restaurant/bar occasionally here called "North India Bar and Grill" and the dj would play some sweet bhangra most of the time (I like bhangra cause I'm a drummer).

Welcome to the forum Smiley And I found that newbies are more forgiving of What's Your Raashee than bolly 'veterans'. But I enjoyed it, mainly because I love Priyanka and it has a fantastic album  Kiss I too watch Indian movies because of the music and masala, but I also enjoy artsy movies. And what's your take on I Hate Luv Storys? Most people I've heard disliked it, but I actually quite liked it - not a brilliant movie, but it was entertaining (again an awesome soundtrack). Plus I've seen MUCH worse Cheesy

Glad you've been happy with your choice of movies. Have you already seen one which you disliked? Or are you turning a blind eye to shortcomings and just enjoying the ride? Smiley

Well, I have mixed feelings about "I Hate Luv Storys."  On the one hand, I loved the music, and the characters, and the way that he changed her mind and made her realize how dull her life was.  But I was so mad when he rejected her after she revealed her feelings to him.  C'mon there is no way a guy would reject her after being "friendly" with her for so long, even after pursuing her himself.  So I felt like the second half of the movie was really long and drawn out, but overall really enjoyable.

I have seen a few I didn't like:
Golmaal Returns - the "dumb" guy was really annoying, I only got 20-40 minutes into it before I couldn't handle it anymore.
Saawariya - I really hated this movie, there seemed like almost no point in the whole movie.  The only good thing I can say about it was the visual elements and the colors and cinematography.

I am mostly turning a blind eye to shortcomings because that's the kind of movie watcher I am.  I rarely hate movies (even American ones) and basically just watch them for enjoyment and to pass time.

Welcome to the forum NRNI! (love that acronym, by the way). I will second the reccomendation for Dil Chahta Hai. Looking at the list of films you've watched liked, I think you will really like this one.

Another film I'll recommend (but less enthusiastically) is Break Ke Baad starring Deepika Padukone, which is a new age rom-com thats a lot better than I Hate Luv Storys but not half as good Jab We Met.

I think she means the grizzly bear on the California flag.  Tongue

Good call on the CA flag, I didn't even think of that.  Also good recommendations, I have yet to see either but they are both at the top of my Netflix queue, so many movies and so little time.  I find myself watching Jab We Met and Chup Chup Ke over and over.  I think Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor are so good together.

No, no, just an allusion to the Golden Bears, our state mascot.  Grin
