I wouldn't exactly call it "describing Aishwarya's birth" He clarified that she had natural birth.
And considering the outrageous stories that came out before she delivered I think I understand why he did. Stories like Bachchan's wanted 11/11/11 birthdate so were having C Section on that date. There were so many crazy stories.
Aishwarya is not going to talk to the press right now so its up to Big B to be the spokesperson of the family.
And just because they share some things doensn't mean they have to share everything.

So showing a picture is "too personal", but calling a press conference describing Aishwarya's birth is not?
I hardly call this describing the birth. Anyway, many people, including my fairly secular family, would fear the evil eye falling on a new born baby whose picture has been released to the entire world. This is apart from the very real fear of creeps getting their hands on it.

Abhishek Bachchan: “I hope Beti B realizes the joy she has brought with her”
With great joy Amitabh Bachchan wrote today on twitter and his blog, “THE ‘lady’ is home. She is home! And nothing could give us all greater joy and happiness.” The lady in question is the new addition to the Bachchan parivaar, Abhishek and Aishwarya’s baby girl, who was born on November 16th.
The new father also took to twitter to proudly announce that his daughter, whom he is calling adorably beti B has come home from the hospital today, “Brought the girls home today. I hope beti B realizes the joy she has brought with her. The house is bursting with pink and proud grandparents.”
In a wonderful tradition, Amitabh was the one to carry the baby from the hospital, “Carried her from the hospital as per tradition. My Father carried her father home”.
On the way to Jalsa, where a very happy grandmother Jaya was waiting to welcome her, they stopped by Prateeksha, which was their first home, they then took the blessings of Amitabh’s late parents, visited a temple and then came home.
Once the girls were settled Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan addressed the media in Mumbai later that evening. Amitabh said, “We are very happy. Abhishek, Aishwarya and betiya all are well and in good health. Life changes when a new life comes to your house. Goddess Lakshmi has come to our family and we have brought Lakshmi ratna home.”
Dada Bachchan says they are very happy that the baby is a girl revealing that, “We wanted a baby and by the grace of god a girl has been born and there cannot be a more happy moment for us all.” Apparently both Jaya and Abhishek wanted a baby girl. “Jaya has given all her time to the child and she is very happy that a daughter has been born, Abhishek also wanted a daughter, I have said I don’t mind anything happening just let it happen that’s it,” Amitabh added.
Aishwarya is apparently doing very well but tired of course. Abhishek said, “Aishwarya is also very happy and excited but a little tired. The best blessing a child can get was that the whole family was together my parents and my in-laws; all the four grandparents gave the child blessings.”
Of course the big question is does she look like Abhishek or Aishwarya? “I think the child looks like Aishwarya,” said Amitabh. “She looks just like her… eyes and all. But you all know that a child’s face changes every day, but I still want to believe that she has Aishwarya’s face, but few people in house believe that there is some resemblance with Abhishek,” hw went on to say.
The next big question is what is her name, but we have to wait a bit more on that, “We are still thinking on the name. It’s just a thought that it should start with A. There won’t be any naamkaran. As soon as we decide upon a name, we’ll keep it.” They have asked for suggestions on Twitter and say they will let fans know there once they have the name. “Thank you all for your generous suggestions of the name for the ‘little one’ .. sitting and deciding now .. should have one soon.”
So how is Abhishek settling in to parenting? This first can be reveled by some recent tweets. “Just as I step into fatherhood and parenthood, I’ve never seen myself rely and depend on my parents more. Guess that happens with every new Parent. And I finally understand why they still at the age of 35 treat me like a baby and cannot accept that I’m a grown man today.”
At the press conference he said, “I’m still getting used to the fact that I’m a father now. I am still getting use to being referred to as dad. Whenever I read in the paper and anyone referred to me as ‘her Pa’ I would think it is my dad whom I call Pa that they were writing about, so yes it is going to take a little for me to get used to being referred as a father because for me there is only one Pa — that is my father. It would take some time for the feeling to sink in, because for me the definition of father is Amitabh Bachchan.”
Adding, “It is not even been a week, so there hasn’t been any changes, it is a blessing and it is a wonderful and we are just enjoying the moment right now. I don’t think there has been any change, being the person that I am I think if I be half a good a father to my daughter as my father has been to my sister and myself I will be happy.”
Talking about his Beti B, Abhishek said, “She’s very sweet, obedient and very cooperative. Shant hai, zyada roti nahi hai (She’s quiet and doesn’t cry much). She is gentle and peace-loving.”
We can think of no better description of the joy of a new baby then what Amitabh wrote on his blog earlier in the week, “The soft innocence of nature rests in my arms, oblivious of what else happens around her. Occasionally she opens her large and what looks now to be eyes of the lighter hue, which those that have dealt with similar, know shall change with time. Often the gentlest of smiles quiver across her pouted upper lip, the shut eyes bringing expression through the brows and the settling down to that dream she must dream.”
We wish them many blessings now and always.

In the
photos I saw online
, it looks like Amitabh is the backseat of the car, holding the baby on the drive home, and my first (totally US-centric) thought was: "How could the hospital let them leave with the baby not in a car seat!!"
Although that Benz looks pretty tank-like.

I am so glad they did not share any baby pics on the net.The net is so unsafe. You never know if some creep is going to misuse photos.
Why would any responsible parent want to share the pics of thier kids with complete strangers on the net?
As far as the press conference goes, I think they are just trying to minimise the number of interviews they give to the media. Release one statement at one time instead of giving 50 interviews only to have your words distorted or misrepresented repeatedly. At least the press conference is released to announce something beautiful.
The Bachchans imo are always subject to a different protocol. They're like BW royalty and they are judged by a different set of rules. It makes sense that they would do this otherwise the media would make a big deal about it.

They want a babyname with A, but I think
Sunehri
would be nice ( I think it means "the golden one" ? ), but it was Aish character in Dhoom 2 so I guess it would never go by...
Otherwise Anamika is pretty, but don`t know if it would suit.
I`m sure they have already thought out a name for the little girl
I guess they wount reveal it until a naming ceremony has been planned.

Anamika is a gorgeous-sounding name, and the title of a biggish hit for grandma Jaya back in the day (also, the second Bollywood oldie I ever saw)...but at first I thought it wouldn't do because it means "No Name." However, wikipedia says that it is a legitimate female name of Sanskrit origins, used to imply "too precious for words" or "her destiny does not depend on a name." Either of which seems appropriate to a daughter and granddaughter of the Bachchan house

Aishwarya Rai's South Indian style godh bharai
Upala KBR, TNN | Oct 26, 2011
After mother-in-law Jaya Bachchan hosted a godh bharai for bahu Aishwarya Rai at Jalsa last week, on October 23 Ash's mother Vrinda Rai held one over lunch at a hotel in Bandra.
Says a source close to Aishwarya, "The godh bharai by Ash's mother was a very traditional Mangalorean one, known as baike, where the mother hosts the godh bharai for her daughter. It was a quiter one as the hotel had promised them privacy and there was no media madness. Ash's parents got the venue late on Saturday night, and they were there till early in the morning supervising all the arrangements."
Vrinda had personally taken care of the details. "Everything was elegant and tasteful. There was a troupe from the south to play Mangalorean music, while white flowers, especially jasmine, and brass urlis (ritualistic Kerala lamps made of bell metal) were part of the decor. The flowers were traditional south Indian with a strong Kerala theme. The cuisine was also from the south and had dishes from every state in the south, ranging from velli aapam, malabar parathas, prawns, egg stew, allepy fish curry, roast urlakalang, yene kathrika, hyderabadi biryani, curd rice, steamed fish and paneer in banana leaf."
The source adds that the Bollywood presence was minimal as it was a family affair. "Apart from the Bachchans and Kapoors, the only other Bollywood presence was that of Mani Ratnam, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ashutosh Gowariker. Shweta Nanda and her family were present, along with Abhishek and his friends, including Sikander and Kirron Kher, Shrishti Arya and Sonali Bendre-Behl. Shrishti's husband Sameer and Sonali's husband Goldie are out of India shooting for their next film and couldn't attend. Ash wore a traditional pistachio green and gold Kanjeevaram saree given by her parents, while Abhishek wore a green and gold kurta-pajama. The couple looked colour coordinated and extremely happy."

From her Tulu baike. It does look a bit like the one in Alaipayuthey, which makes sense.

Abhishek's the sweetest...
No, I mean as every husband should also. We conveniently forget the people (like our mothers and wives) who also need the love and the care. Of course, it's amazing that this new life has come into our world but the mother (Aishwarya) needs as much love and care as the baby does

I loved this part:
Yes two weeks and two days... Do you feel more responsible now that you are a father? I was always a responsible person.
Just because I am always fun-loving and cheerful
doesn't
mean I am not responsible
. I have always been very responsible towards myself, my family, loved ones and most importantly, to my fans. I don't think that will ever change. But if you are asking: have I become more responsible now? Of course I have! You have a new life now which you want to take care of.
That whole article was so sweet. Abhi is so lovable

Huh? What does Karisma have anything to do with them having a child? I am sure Karisma must've moved on and probably wants to act 'cause that is what she does for a living. Maybe she wants to be independent and is just passionate about acting? After all, she hails from a family of entertainers.

Are you sure Abhishek has never jilted anyone in the past? I am sure he has dumped his share of women. Things did not work out between them due to family pressure. I don't see why anyone should judge her harshly for something that happens aeons ago.
