Zoom TV tweeted this this morning. - http://twitter.com/#!/zoOm_buzz/status/79436241728311298

I actually don't see anything wrong with this, if it is true I would love to see how she pulls it off. Apparently the kind of role that Vidya was given in the original requires a talented actress, and Madhuri definitely fits the bill. I was having a discussion with someone as to whether or not Madhuri would be able to make a comeback that wouldn't be an embarrassing FAIL like Aaja Nachle, and we both agreed that if the right script came along and she's not given some ridiculous role, that she could make it happen. I just hope they don't stick her in a jodi with a young guy and...for once!...I actually won't be disappointed if she doesn't dance! Considering that it wouldn't really fit the theme that Ishqiya asks for.

Actually, I would rather have it be a very good actor that's not a big BW star.  I definitely don't want any of the big name stars in her age group or older.  Same goes for the younger generation too.

ETA:  A star I wouldn't mind - Saif Ali Khan.

Ooh, if this is true Madhuri will definitely be able to pull it off. I don't know how I feel about an Ishqiya sequel at all, but if they insist, then yes, Madhuri please! Wink

I don't see what about Ishqiya's "theme" precludes dancing-as long as it's something that the character knows how to do and has semi-believable reasons for doing in-story, it could be done.

I see what you mean. Like, a slow, somber, Maar Daalea-esque Kathak would be nice, just so we could see the old Madhuri. If the movie-makers included that in the promos that would be enough to draw some of her old fans in and anyone else who's been thirsting for the old Bollywood dancing, rather than the gyrating, fist-pumping stuff that we have now (I'm one of those people! Tongue), that would be a smart move on their part. But I mean, nothing too upbeat, considering that Ishqiya is darker than the cutesy stuff that Madhuri also does so well in terms of dancing.

Naseer's taking a break from acting after TDP so it's Irrfan opposite Madhuri, which gets me even more excited for this film. Kangana is the only weak link in this cast. Our previous discussions on this topic here and here.

Madhuri Dixit to start shooting for ‘Ishqiya’ sequel!
Madhuri Dixit is the lead star of ‘Ishqiya’ sequel?
By ApunKaChoice
Tue, Sep 27, 2011

The dhak dhak girl has paved the way for a fresh round of rumours ever since she made the announcement of her settling in India. People have reasoned out recession to divorce, as the causes of her return with bag and baggage to aamchi Mumbai. But, it seems, Madhuri Dixit has different reasons for coming back, and she is also looking forward to another inning in Bollywood.

After her exit from the industry, there has been no one like her in Bollywood. Madhuri Dixit is the diva who ruled the big screen for almost a decade with her looks, infectious smile, and sensuous dancing skills, but above all, it was her terrific acting which won her many accolades and fans alike. Now it’s heard that as soon she settles herself in her hometown, the actress will start working in Ishqiya sequel, tentatively titled Dedh Ishqiya.

In the movie Madhuri will be paired opposite the versatile Irrfan Khan. The only actor from the original cast is Arshad Warsi, who will reportedly romance Kangana Ranaut in this film.

But why Vidya Balan is not in the movie? Wasn’t she fabulous in Ishqiya? Reports have it that The Dirty Picture actor was not convinced to play the similar kind of role, again.

Vidya Balan’s loss is definitely Madhuri Dixit’s gain. What do you say, guys!

How will they explain Naseer's absence, though? I could see how they might explain Vidya's absence in the sequel. Dedh Ishqiya could focus on another unrelated adventure of Khalujan and Babban - like the Munna Bhai sequel did. But now to only have Arshad in the sequel...? Why not create a brand new film? It's not like there's going to much continuity, anyway. Undecided

I'm very excited with this news! Madhuri and Irrfan together is just magic waiting to happen. Looking forward to how they tie it to the first one, assuming they do (otherwise why would it be a sequel..?). So thrilled Madhuri is coming back!

Maybe Khalujaan found the perfect embodiment of his romantic fantasies and decided to retire from his life of crime? I feel like the explanation for his absence is going to be something lame like that.

All missing-character related plot holes aside... if you're going to subtract Naseeruddin Shah, Irrfan Khan is pretty much the only acceptable addition (well, I would accept Nana Pateker as well. Smiley ).
and La Dixit? wooooooooooot!!

I am being nice and sparing you all my Arshad-in-eyeliner comments.  Kiss

Sparing us? No, no.  You are depraving us of the chance to collectively appreciate kajal on Arshad.  Or is it Arshad in Kajal.  It doesn't matter. Just that kajal and Arshad are a match made up above.

Sadly nothing is confirmed from Madhuri´s side as yet..... in her latest interview she said she hasn´t signed yet and she is yet to go thoroughly through the script...

Must say I would love her to do this film. I loved Aaja Nachle, but it was not really a performance oriented film, which I guess this might be the case. Irrfan is a gret actor and it would be awesome to see him with Mads. Even their brief scene together in AN was full of tension. Bring them on! (though my ultimate dream is to see her with SRK or Aamir again).

NOT excited about Kangana at all.....

I concur.

But isn't Madhuri moving back to India for a bit? That's a clue! (Wishful thinking) My boyfriend is in Denver right now and if she's still there I would like to know!

This was exactly my thought when I read about the new cast. I'm disappointed enough about the breakup of the power duo from Ishqiya (I think it was always a sure thing that Vidya was going to go) that I can't even get that excited about Madhuri's possible appearance in the sequel.  Sad  I wish they would just cut the connection to the original story and announce this cast on a new film that I could look forward to uncomplicatedly!

I really like the new cast - or at least Irfan and Madhuri. I think Kangana will fit in. Arshad will be the link element to trigger the Ishqiya concept. But hopefully the new cast makes the film a standalone effort and infuses new life into the "franchise". I'm looking forward to this.

You know how I want Kangana to fit into the story? There was a throwaway line in the first film about how Babban had gotten a girl pregnant and left. I would like to see them pick up that thread. Also, considering how Kangana is always said to resemble Madhuri, I wonder if they'll have them play mother and daughter. I feel like the latter is much more likely to happen than the former.

Really? I don't think Madhuri would go for that. I think it's more likely that they'll play sisters, if they're supposed to be related.

Madhuri is so not playing Kangana´s mother. She refused to play mother to Sonam, who is even younger.... vPlus since when Mads and Kangana resemble each other?  Shocked I must be blind.....

Yeah, Madhuri is moving to India, but nothing is confirmed. This is from her last telephonic interview:

But you have signed on for Vishal Bhardwaj’s Ishqiya sequel, Dedh Ishqiya?

Well, I’ve not signed on the dotted line. I’ll only be able to tell you when it’s on paper. I still have to make a decision regarding the script. Let’s see.

When Kangana first entered the industry, it was said that she resembled Madhuri.  I think it's there in her earlier pictures. Not anymore.

Wikipedia tells me that Kangana is younger, it's just all the surgery that makes her seem slightly undead. Madhuri never stated what her issue with the Freaky Friday remake was, but I assumed it had to do with it being the Freaky Friday remake and playing mother to and sharing equal space with Sonam who had just given us Aisha.

Here, I feel like Madhuri is definitely the star and Kangana (who's popular after Tanu Weds Manu) will be the second lead. Not saying that's how it will be, but I don't think Madhuri is outright refusing to play mothers, just not the typical desexualized Hindi film mother, which is her due as the star.

Madhuri said she didn´t find the Freaky Friday thing exciting or interesting enough.... and fans bombarded her through Twitter that they A) don´t want to see her as a mother to anyone over 10 years B) act with the wooden Sonam Kapoor.....

She doesn´t have a problem playing a mother as long as the role is good - or that is what she said.

Kangana is younger then Sonam? Wow! She looks close to 30!!!

All I´m sure is that if Madhuri signs the film, it will be a role with enough of screen-time and with something interesting to it. Though yeah, she can be promised screen-space ad then her scenes can be cut out (cough cough Bhansali)...
