The Love Aaj Kal couple, Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan, is back. They will star in a film to be produced by Saif's banner Illuminati Films and will start shooting in April 2011. The film was earlier supposed to star Imran Khan in lead and was to be produced by Dinesh Vijan but as it turns out, Saif is back in the project in the capacity of both, producer and actor. The untitled project has been scripted by Imtiaz Ali (Love Aaj Kal, Jab We Met) and will be directed by Homi Adajania (Being Cyrus). It will be shot in London, Spain and Delhi.

On bringing up parallels between this film and Love Aaj Kal, director Homi Adajania says, "It's a similar space from where Love Aaj Kal left off and then it roller-coasters from there. Imtiaz has given us a hysterical and open-minded celebration of relationships that explore the various choices that life may offer... and what people are willing to surrender for love or sacrifice for friendship."

Saif admits, "I was waiting for a script as contemporary and relevant as this to come my way and it has been worth the wait. I'm very excited about this story; it is romantic, funny and has a great balance of drama and entertainment. I've wanted to do a love story with a modern sensibility and treatment and I know that Homi will give us exactly that. I'm also looking forward to my pairing with Deepika again. She has a fantastic role in this and I think she has grown impressively since Love Aaj Kal and will handle it very well."

Talking about the film, Deepika says, "For me to do a romantic film is very exciting, and yet different, and to find a script like this, which is edgy and quirky, had an instant connect for me. It has a bit of everything, and I have seen Homi's Being Cyrus, and absolutely love his work. I have great respect for him and I'm confident, he is the perfect choice to direct this film. I haven't played shades of a character like this before. This film also marks the reunion of the Love Aaj Kal team, with Saif, Dinoo and me. I'm very excited to be working with Saif again, he is one of my favourite co-stars and I hope we can recreate the magic of Love Aaj Kal once again on screen."

Producer Dinesh Vijan is happy that they have taken their time and chosen their projects wisely. " At Illuminati, Saif and I have always wanted to develop projects of diverse genres and stories that we believe in... we want to take our time and create content that today's well-exposed audience might like. Imtiaz has given us a beautiful story, audience loved Saif and Deepika in Love Aaj Kal and I am happy that we could bring this pair together again," Vijan adds.

Grin Yayy !  So happy to see Saif working with Homi again.  Have been waiting for him to start his next movie be it Resurrection or Thugee.  I love Homi !  Such a cool guy and if any director who should be acting, it would have to be Homi !!!  Will be fun with hang out with the Deepika fans like we did with Love Aaj Kal.   Smiley

Saif and Deepika all set to celebrate with ‘Cocktail’

Seems like Deepika Padukone is taking her relationship with Siddharth Mallya to the next level. Now the title of her films too seems to be finding an inspiration from the business avenues of her steady companion. Reason being that the title of her next film with Saif Ali Khan is Cocktail. Since Siddharth is the son of liquor baron Vijay Mallya, a title like Cocktail only adds to the high that Deepika is enjoying in her relationship.

Confirms a senior crew member, “Yes, the film has been titled Cocktail. However, one can’t quite say if it has anything to do with Deepika’s personal equation with anyone. Something like this is just incidental. This is a modern day love story bearing urban sensibilities and hence a title like Cocktail pretty much suits the mood of the film. Other than that, anything else is plain speculation.”

Meanwhile, one looks forward to check out what Cocktail would be all about, considering the fact that it not just reunites Saif and Deepika (who are also working in Prakash Jha’s Aarakshan) again after Love Aaj Kal but is also the second directorial outing for Homi Adajania after Being Cyrus (which again starred Saif).

“This is not all, as the film’s script has been written by Imtiaz Ali who is quite close to Saif and Kareena after Love Aaj Kal and Jab We Met respectively”, says an industry insider, “This could well be one lethal cocktail in the offing here.”

On being contacted, Homi Adajania confirmed that Cocktail is the chosen title for the film. However he added a word of caution by stating, “It is a working title as of now.”

Saif is pretty excited about the film already. As per him, the film is romantic and funny with a great balance of drama and entertainment. He has also earlier quoted – “I have wanted to do a love story with a modern sensibility and treatment and I know that Homi will give us exactly that.”

Hopefully that would indeed happen for this film which would be shot in London, Spain and Delhi. One just wonders though how far Siddharth would be travelling to serve Deepika a heady cocktail all across the globe!

Meanwhile… The shoot of Saif’s Cocktail is running behind schedule, thanks to some unruly weather in South Africa.

The unit of Saif Ali Khan’s next home venture Cocktail, which is being shot in Cape Town, South Africa is currently facing nature’s fury. Bad weather condition is causing the delay in the shoot of the film and consequently making a heavy dent in the producer’s pocket.

A birdie from Cape Town reveals, “We are way behind the schedule due to bad weather conditions and excessive winds. Since most of our scenes are shot, we have no choice but to wait for the conditions to improve. The source adds, “One has little control over such unforeseen things. It was supposed to be a 15 day-schedule but we have been here for 20 days and still have not been able to finish the shooting. If it goes on like this I am afraid we may have to come back leaving the shoot midway. It’s quite expensive for the producers to park the entire crew in Cape Town for a week without work.”

The film directed by Homi Adjania stars Deepika Padukone and a new girl opposite Saif Ali Khan. The producers remained unavailable for comment

Thanks for keeping a tab on this film, Vivster.  It sounds very promising.  Being Cyrus left an impression but its been a while since that was made and I was wondering what Homi was up to.  Now I know and so I'll be looking forward to this one.

Hm, I don't know what to make of this.  It looks very sleek and pretty, and the story looks somewhat unique and interesting even though it is clearly firmly in the rom-com genre.  At the same time it doesn't look all that innovative in style, just more of what we've been seeing as BW delves into HW-style rom-coms.  The other lead actress is gorgeous.  Deepika also looks amazing, but I'm starting to feel like she gives off the same bland image in every movie she does.  Also, I don't know if the age of the male lead is relevant for this movie, but Saif Ali Khan really does look a little too old next to those ladies.  Undecided  So far I'm very ambivalent, but it sure does look like it will be pretty and probably LOTS of FUN too (I will watch it just for the full scene of Saif in a female viking costume.  Grin)

Saif in the viking costume. That's it, that's all I need to run to the theaters when comes out! No one does goofy like Saif!

That said, I agree with Dariya about the age bit. But then think about it, Imran was first signed up for the role and for whatever reason, a little into shooting, Saif took Imran's place. So yes, the role is definitely younger than Saif's real age.
And the younger ladies make the age gap look more prominent. But Saif is just so endearing in these kinds of roles, that I"m not complaining!

This looks nice!!!  And I have a lot of faith in Homi Adajania.

I pretty much always like Deepika -- to me she always emanates an intelligent humorousness, and Saif is good at this kind of role.

And besides the Viking costume, there is Dimple Kapadia!!

I havent heard Saif do that scream when his parents catch him in the Viking costume since the run away police car in Main Khiladi Tu Anari, lol!

For anyone going bonkers over Saif in the Viking costume, here's a gif worth checking out  Cheesy

I dont know what to stare at. The lipstick, the chaddi, the facial expressions, or the awkward fall. Its just too good!

Dimple, Boman and the Viking costume were doing it for me...I'm for sure seeing this for them.

But you know, I also think this looks interesting. I'm wondering if it will go down the Vicky Cristina Barcelona route (I really enjoyed that movie though). I also think it might explore the good girl/bad girl thing that I think a lot of Indian movies have as their subtext. BAH sort of dealt with that when Ranbir leaves Bipasha, who concludes that because she lived with him before marriage she wasn't 'the kind of girl' a man or his family was going to see him marrying. I think TDP was dealing with this virgin/vamp thing too. The latter part of the trailer was making me think that they both love him and it's a question of the girls' 'image' once the parents show up.

On another note - OMG *FUN* SAIF IS BACK! He was really making me laugh. I love him as a directionless doofus...refreshing after I think Agent Vinod made him slick to the point of soullessness.

The trailer was cute, but the whole feel of it was kind of giving me a Love Aaj Kal hangover tbh. And while I love Saif, and adore him in comedic roles, he seems way too old for this part. I'll reserve judgment until more promos come out, but this just feels like characters Saif and Deepika have already played before Undecided

I have been looking forward to this a lot till I saw the promo. I was hoping for something very interesting from Homi but it looks like any other love triangle that is being churned out by all the A-list production houses. All gloss and fun with very little substance and a supposed twist.  Roll Eyes I am disappointed that the director is churning this out after Being Cyrus (one of my favorites).

Foreign locations are an instant turn off for me especially one in which all characters are desi or somehow speak hindi.  It must be an Illuminati thing to make such types of films.  Someone should tell Saif that that trend has passed.

Still, I'll reserve judgement given Homi's involvement and Deepika's high endorsement.

Homi was supposed to direct Resurrection - a murder mystery and Thagi - con man movie after Being Cyrus.  Unfortunately both movies didn't happen.  I am looking forward to Cocktail because of Homi.

The next production for Illuminati is Go Goa Gone and shot only in India.
