Patang opened last weekend in North America and from what I understand there is a release in the works (or rather, in the prayers) for India. It's a film about a family during the Kites Festival in Ahmedabad. The director, Prashant Bhargava, grew up in Chicago but his family is originally from Ahmedabad.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8dH2BEj5Os&feature=player_embeddedIt's slow paced, so not for the action-film lovers, but gorgeously shot and rich in symbolism. It was made mostly with untrained actors which gives it a very authentic feel and it's as the director put it: "neither Bollywood, nor Slumdog Millionaire".

Excellent piece of modern cinema. Go see it if you have a chance.
PS: We met the director of this film at the Toronto screening and he's adorable. A true artist, all heart.
