Beautiful episode! Just beautiful. The mind boggles at how good it just is. Compelling, funny and it's just written so damn well! Definitely one of my favourite episodes I've ever seen.

Yes I loved the Christmas special too. But in our household opinion was split down gender lines - my daughter and I thought it was magical, my son and husband found it mediocre. "It was just A Christmas Carol without the ghosts", said my son. He's nine, perhaps there just weren't enough robots, guns or explosions it it for him

I spent a good bit of Christmas break catching up on the past 4 seasons. Then, having sprained my ankle on Thursday night, forced to rest all weekend, and there being no new bollywood movies in the house that I really wanted to watch, I took advantage of Netflix instant play. I watched nearly everything they had, but Season 5 isn't available on instant play yet. Hello, Itunes! I think Matt Smith is an Old Soul, and will give the Doctor a lot of depth. I loved the whole steampunk look of the Christmas episode. What a beautiful story. And I feel a real sexual chemistry between Smith and Alex Kingston that I didn't pick up on with her and David Tennant. Age difference be damned, I think they'd make a very interesting jodi.
I can't believe none of my friends have recommended this program to me before!

Anyone else think the Christmas special was one of the best? Really, it's up there with 'The Girl in the Fireplace', 'Don't Blink', and any and all Cybamen + Dalek plots.
I didn't know if it was worth mentioning, but I got the Troughton - Hartnell rare episodes dvd collection as a Christmas gift. Was rather pleased (Troughton's my favorite. Honestly, who can watch this video and not think he's absolutely adorable?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Xm26StUZVY
)
The first angels episode was just "Blink", not 'Don't Blink" and it was sublime. This Xmas special was a sweet episode, but even though I'm a Xmas-hating grinch who enjoyed it, it was in no way anywhere near the acme of tv perfection that "Blink" was.

Free premier screening of the next episode in NYC Monday night, with the cast and Steven Moffat.
http://www.villageeastcinema.com/angelika_event_calendar_detail.asp?hID=166&ID=1543
If I could blow off work, I could probably take the Megabus from Pittsburgh Sunday night, then camp outside the theater all day Monday and catch the next Megabus to be back in the office by Tuesday morning. So tempting!!

Any thoughts on the new episode?
*Spoilers*-no pun intended - but I think River is pregnant, too.

Loved the new episode - once again Amy seems to be truly pivotal, which I think is great.

First of all, I am shocked that it took me so long to find this thread!!
I am not over David Tennant
. Still, I enjoyed the last season quite a bit, though I'm annoyed that someone at my dad's house erased the Christmas epi.
AND I can't seem to locate it on Netflix.
Matt Smith is excellent as the Doctor, but I will never
ever
get over my love for Tennant's doctor.
I can't wait to start all over from the beginning.

I too am not over David Tennant's departure. It may be several years yet before I get over it. I haven't been able to watch the doctor yet at all, that is how bad I've got it.

Reviving this thread because Doctor Who has taken over my life
I started with the 9th doctor and am currently at the 4th season.
I love love love Tennant and since Tumblr has pretty much already spoiled ALL the surprises (at least I think so) I know that this is his last season ... I don't wanna see him go
But yay!! Rose will return

Oh gosh, this show is constantly being watched at my house for like the past 1 month, and I don't foresee the family obsession ending anytime soon. I just can't get into sci-fi things personally, robots and time/space travel and whatnot, but I do think David Tennant is fun from what I have seen (I also remember him being in Casanova and Harry Potter.

Lol, I wish I had somebody to watch the show with me... but oh well, being a bollywood fan I got pretty much used to solitary fangirling
Didn't really expect to get addicted to the show, but it's just so... gah, I don't even know... different? to the American sci-fi shows I was used to.
And David Tennant's face is all kinds of wonderful

I've become a huge Doctor Who fan over the past year, particularly of Matt Smith. His seasons have been my favorite so far! And I'm really sad to see Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill go, they've been my favorite companions. So of course I was psyched to find out that they were filming one of their final episodes in New York, right by my school. These are people I never thought I would EVER get to see in person, and they were SO sweet and accommodating and just really upbeat. They got a wave going in the crowd, and started taking pictures of us while we took pictures of them
They said that this was going to be another Weeping Angels episode...I'm just happy those are added digitally, because they scare the crap out of me

I can't wait to start all over from the beginning.
So this year I've slowly been rewatching the whole series with my sister, who loves it. We are up to Matt Smith's introduction.
She loved David Tennant, but I have a sneaking suspicion that she will possibly favor Matt Smith!

Heee, I spent yesterday watching the final season of DW and FINALLy finished it. I'm not on my toes regarding the next season... As much as I loved (
LOVED
) the characters and stories in RTD's era, I 'only' liked them in Moffat's seasons (it felt like he was needlessly trying to mindf*ck, twist, and complicate everything). It took me too long to warm up to Amy, Rory, and the Doctor, but I do like them now (not even sure 'like' is the right word... maybe more like I started getting interested in their story).
But lol at how EPIC everything had to be
I feel like I can let go now

I started a couple months ago and I loved The Girl in the Fireplace - it made me tear up.
I also loved Christopher Eccleston as nine. I don't think he gets enough love.

I liked TGINF, but in terms of characterization, it was so very off
And I think with Christopher it's the lack of footage. I loved his Doctor - every time I rewatch his scenes I get sad that he didn't get more episodes (even tho I understand that that was his choice). I thought I'd mourn him for at least one season, but it took Tennant a whole minute to win me over
(as for Smith I'm still waiting

May I introduce myself as a new fan of The Doctor!
I am currently catching up and have watched Seasons 1-3 so far and am eagerly waiting for my mail for season 4 and the specials.
I don't know why it took me so long to find this. Weird. I have seen it mentioned every now and then but since I had no clue of the old series it probably never really clicked. It actually took the otherwise not very special "Decoy Bride" that made me look out for more stuff with that weirdly endearing guy with the mobile open face that emotes so well and who makes my knees go weak when his eyes crinckle in the corners when he smiles, ....
I'm so glad I still have a couple of David Tennant episodes to go and I'm still not sure if I ever will love another doctor as much as him. I quite liked Chris Ecclestone's doctor too but I couldn't help feeling that he is putting the freaky funny side on deliberately while with David it seems like an extension of himself.

And gawd the cast.. THE CAST!

Weeeeell.... the Ninth Doctor just killed off his whole species, so he was in a dark place. I think he sometimes put that manic expression on on purpose, it wasn't spontaneous as it was with the Tenth Doctor

Better start with the 9th Doctor. Lol, the effects are cheezy and some of the episodes aren't that great, but overall it's pretty enjoyable and fun

From what I've seen in clips on YouTube the 11th doctor doesn't do much for me either on the fieping side.
Which doesn't mean I would not continue to enjoy the show per se. But I'm not sure I want to buy the DVD collection of the series with him, .... not enough drooling potential there I guess. And I can't watch the series anywhere online so I will have to find a way to rent or borrow them. And I'm not sure it's worth going all that way, ... without David, ... I don't know, ...

By now I'm through with all DT episodes and specials. OMG season 4 is so fantastic and Donna is my favorite companion by far! Loved the chemistry she had with the Doctor. And I loved, loved, loved the wonderfully EPIC ending! Brilliant, moving, glorious and heartbreakingly sad at the same time! What glorious scritpwriting! And End of Time is even better! I just can't find the words how brilliant the dramtic concept of the end of the 10th doctor is. And Bernard Cribbins is a gem! His scenes with DT had me in a puddle every time.
I'm kind of curious in a detached way about how things go on with the series. I found River Song's appearance in Silence in the Libary/Forest of the Dead rather annoying because I didn't like her smugness and her looks at all. And I wonder if I would get to like her better if she is in her proper storyline and with the 11th doctor, ... but so far I couldn't find a way to watch series 5 and 6 anywhere online, so I don't think I will be able to statisfy my curisosity anytime soon, .... too bad they don't have them on the BBC iPlayer!

Yep, PKG, I agree with everything you said. The End of Time is genius. Bernard Cribbins + David Tennant = PERFECTION. What an ending. (sniff)
Even if you don't fiep over the 11th doctor (it's hard after DT), the next seasons are definitely worth a watch. Lots of good stuff, and while he's no David Tennant, Matt Smith is definitely a DOCTOR.
