As for me, right now, most of humanity annoys the ever loving shit out of me.

When I'm stressed out (pain, depression, schoolwork), my tolerance for other people goes out the window. Which made last semester a joy. I asked my roommate if she could turn down her tv, I needed *some* quiet to relax, she needed noise to relax. Her words. (And no, headphones that don't cost more than a hundred bucks do not drown out the world!)

I hate noise that I can't control - my music loud? Ok.

Some guy walking around the school cafeteria fucking whistling?! It's good I'm all talk (mean thoughts) and no action.

But I do realize it's me when people across the street from me are talking and I'm annoyed.

When I'm not so frazzled...

My sister's refusal to at least not *sound* like a bigot around me. (She refuses to not use "gay" as an insult around me, even though I've asked her to stop. Isn't that common courtesy?)
People who SCREAM in the damn dorm hallways and make noise on school nights. (Like... Monday night.)
Assholes who pull the fire alarm at 2 am and 3 am any night.
Drivers who look at me funny when I'm walking somewhere. I hate cars!

I am not a social person. I am not a noise person. There is a reason I slept through my graduation party. (After opening the prezzies, of course!)

I love the internet - this is all on my terms, my time. And ya'll are so quiet!

Also, people talking in class. These girls next to me - in a tiny, overcrowded classroom - were talking. Naturally, me asking them to shut up was louder than their chatter *at that moment* and the professor - a grad student - was like, yes, some people need silence to concentrate.

This semester it's people around me talking in a giant lecture hall, so it doesn't affect my learning, but dammit, SHUT UP SHUT UP.

I am not having a good semester.

Asiaphile is more of a derrogatory term for dudes with an asian girl fetish...all the guys who i know who are like that are the creepiest (can a 27 year old use that word) people around...i knew a girl from taiwan who dated an asiaphile, he kept asking her if she would dress in qipao's and all...what a bunch of freaks; i remember i once saw a guy in K-town in flushing get beat up for stuff like that.

I have a theory that introverts are much more sensitive to noise/talking.  It's like it interrupts whatever one is thinking about.  Extroverts don't seem to have this problem.

The best solution I've found for noise is Bilsom Thunder T3, NRR 30 Ear Muff coupled with Howard Leight Max-1 Ear Plugs, Uncorded, NRR33 (together they would set you back around $45 on Amazon for the Ear Muffs and 200 pairs of the ear plugs).  When I carefully wear them together I've found I can block out most noise/voices.  You might need to trim the ear plugs so they aren't pushed too deep into your ear canals.

The more expensive partial solution are noise cancellation headphones and white noise (there are white noise CDs (and I would assume downloads) available).

Unfortunately, for legal reasons I think makers of noise blocking devices make them such that the human voice can still get through -- they don't want to be sued because someone didn't hear a shouted warning.  Introverts really need devices which can block the human voice -- it's usually the most annoying noise in the environment.

Now I know what to ask for for Christmas! (We're at the weird stage in family life when I'm still "young" but the "old" people don't know what the hell I'm doing. So it's a list.)

I have some tiny control issues, and I would definitely call myself an introvert - it's not just shyness. Sometimes being alone is the best. Doesn't mean I won't talk to a stranger sitting next to me somewhere.

If I turn my ipod up so loud that everyone can hear my music, I can still hear people.  But yeah, there is the whole "not getting hit by cars" thing...

Oh, funny thing - the song "Des Rangila" from Fanaa has some car-like sound effects - it sounds like a truck honking. Freaked me out the first time I heard the song while taking a walk!

7. People who drive their cars for every small errand and who forgot they had legs or public transportation
8. Car drivers that don't understand simple physics, such as: I might be safe in my 5000 pounds vehicle, but I could potentially injure a pedestrian or cyclist if I am not safe.

I'd be devastated Gauri, but traditionally in those movies the heroine inevitably breaks up with those guys (usually at his tennis or yacht club after he makes some quasi-racist remark about the Honduran waiter) and ends up with the out of town peasant. In the words of SRK from Darr, 'yeh shaadi nahin ho sakti!' DCH in Iceland, there's an idea.

2. Mobile phones going off in lecture theatres.
3. Guilty party actually answering the call and holding a conversation.
4. People who think Sikhs with turbans are Muslims.
5. NRI artists who're overly concerned with wanting to seem invisible in their art, so that nobody can pick up their ethnicity.
6. The overuse of sitars and tablas in Western advertising
7. People content with parochialism
8. Christians who're overly helpful to Asians, pretending to be curious about their backgrounds, when in actuality it's just a way of increasing the 'fold'.
