Tonight, Sunday,  is/was the debut of Farah Khan's talk show, Tere Mere Beach Mein, on Star TV in India, and her guests are Salman Khan and his mother, Salma.  Does that mean, you and me on the beach?

I think it's already past that time.  Anyhow here's a thread for discussion of the show, bulletins about upcoming shows, and, I hope, sharing of links about how we can see it online.

I think I may get interested in this one, I like her and expect a degree of freshness and realness.

It's a play on words but I think they're meaning it as 'Between You and Me'.

Thanks - what does it mean literally?

Is it a pun about "beach" and "bitch"?  I love Hindi-English punning.  Like does it also mean, you and I bitching together? or not?

Sorry I am sure you and bilingual people understand Someone's post, but I don't - I still could not say what the litral meaning is, what any idiomatic meaning is, or what pun is present.

बीच = between (us), between (you and me)
बीच (in Hindi) sounds just like beach (in English).

बीच - biic  means between, and as far as I know “tere mere biic mei.n“ is a phrase meaning “just between you and me“. Of course there won't be any confidentiality or privacy  involved, what with the spectators and the cameras  Cheesy, so they exchanged the Hindi word with “beach“ and settled for Goa. So that's the original pun.

Funny you should have come up with this. Farah might not have realized it, but this is kind of a hattrick pun!

Hi, Balle_Balle, you just beat me to it! But I'll post this anyway Grin

Thanks - biic isn't a word in my small Hindi vocabulary.

Leavining out biic - does Tere mere beach mein also mean, you and me on the beach?

That's what they were going for, but it doesn't fit because you and me on the beach' would be a different phrase in Hindi. They just settled for: 'beach' sounds like 'between' in Hindi, and the talk show is on a beach presumably.

Thanks for letting me know about this, Darshana, or I would've missed it!  I'm a sucker for shows like this with Hindi film stars, which is funny because I rarely watch it for Hollywood/N. American stars.

Anyway, it seems to be up on youtube already:  part one.  It's primarily in Hindi, though.

Thanks for posting that, James. Didn't watch the whole thing but what struck me off the bad was that Farah has a horrible voice and her delivery is also very stilted. She needs to take some voice training before she can become a host I'd want to listen to.

BTW, it looks like the show is called 'tere mere beech main' after all Cheesy. Can we delete the irrelevant convo about puns, hehe.

So - keep your eyes out plz for online versions which are subtitled - or - why don't you stop writing your dissertation or studying for your boards and subtitle the episode yourself?  then you know it will be just right!!

I've never seen this on an Indian show before, though that doesn't mean it doesn't happen by any means, but Farah Khan gave away one lakh rupees (100, 000 Rps) to a young man whose mother was in great need of an operation on her back.  It was just sweet and nice of her to do.  She also gave the same amount to Salman Khan's charity, Being Human.

Thanks for posting that, James. Didn't watch the whole thing but what struck me off the bad was that Farah has a horrible voice and her delivery is also very stilted. She needs to take some voice training before she can become a host I'd want to listen to.

Yes, Farah has a very monotone sound to her voice.  Her voice sounds to me such that if she were to sing she'd definitely be flat.  So she needs to work on that, though I did enjoy her way of relating to Salman Khan, apparently a childhood friend of hers, and coming across as a regular person without pretensions or airs who's not afraid of being a little silly.

Farah Khan did a telephone interview about the show on the fabulous "Love Bollywood" programme on BBC Asian Network yesterday. The podcast of the interview is here, and they usually keep them on the web site for a week or so.

Leaving out biic - does Tere mere beach mein also mean, you and me on the beach?
“someone“ has already ruled this out: “ it doesn't fit because you and me on the beach' would be a different phrase in Hindi.“

But what about “On your and my beach“  like “on our familiar terrain"? - Just asking! The pun would be better if the “beach“ sentence had a meaning on its own.

Expanding on the comment made by James, I am pleasantly surprised that she made a donation to an audience member for a worthy cause. The first episode with Salman was interesting. I liked that she had a theme for both guests, it is a different personal angle. It was refreshing to see Salman with his mom because you got to see a side of him we haven't before (and that's fresh for someone who has been in the limelight for 20 years!). All the talk about the mama's boy was kind of nauseating after a while - I don't think it should be encouraged! Anyway I look forward to future episodes.

Does anyone know if this aired in the US on Dish Network last weekend? I kept seeing commercials saying "coming soon" but never saw a starting time. I hope I didn't miss it!

I just looked on my guide and see 'Tere Mere Beach Mein' schedule for Saturday and Sunday.Do the episodes span two days?

If I missed the Salman episode last week I hope they re-air it. Otherwise I'll have to check out YouTube.

Thanks for the post Darshana.

In the interview that Mr. B referenced above it mentioned that the show would be playing next week in the UK, so I imagine it must be the same for the U.S., too.  I'm not sure why it'd be split into two, though.

I watched it on youtube and really liked it! It's true that Farah's delivery and speech aren't that great, she's not talk-show host material, but I like that because it's not so stiff the way simi garewal or even karan johar's shows were. KJo's show was better than Simi's because it was less uptight, and Farah's is even less uptight! There's more talk about personal lives and things us normal people can relate to, where as KJo's show was all "I met so and so through so and so and am doing a film with so and so"..very name dropping and elitist. Really looking forward to Priyanka Chopra's episode, the trailer is hilarious where she speaks in Punjabi. And she talks about how when she went to school in America she felt so out of place that she ate lunch alone in the bathroom! I like that she's showing young teens everywhere that we all go through our awkward phases and come out much more mature and confident  Smiley
