Who will you guys choose?

I saw a poll on this on another movie website the other day. From the yesteryears, Audrey Hepburn received most votes:

From modern times, Angelina Jolie:

Personally, I think Angelina Jolie looks like a duck, and she hasn't aged well.

Resisting the urge to post my beloved Marilyn Monroe (who is probably more "sexy" than "beautiful") and going with Natalie Wood, who is SO underrated. Unfortunately, I can't find a copy of my favorite picture of her on the net. Sad

Really, I could post a thousand actresses in this thread; I love ye olde Hollywood. Smiley

I think Keira Knightley looks starved. Her supposed counterpart, Natalie Portman, however, is beautiful to me:

Ooh! I love Kate Winslet and Keira Knightley. (Doesn't hurt that they've both worked with Johnny Depp Evil)

Yeah, Keira is wayyy too skinny, but I think her face is prettier than Natalie's, although they do look a lot alike at times. Natalie just comes across as too blah sometimes..maybe it's because she makes this one face when she's acting that annoys me to no end.

^ Oh my God, I LOVE Gong Li! Zhang Ziyi is pretty, too, but Gong Li shines like a pearl to me. She's a great actress, too; Raise the Red Lantern is an amazing film, and her performance is incredible.

I always found Myrna Loy to be a stunning actress. I loved her in the Thin Man movies!!!

And I second Rita Hayworth!!! I always loved her hair.

Who can forget Grace Kelly. She had this almost stunning girl next door look. She was so beautiful.

I couldn't agree more. Huge Gong Li fan, I have all her films (save 2 American ones : Hannibal Rising & Miami Vice) on DVD.

US/UK: Audrey Hepburn, Felicity Kendal, Meg Tilly

Seeing Meg Tilly in The Big Chill was a wakeup call for my adolescent self.  Evil  To some degree she defined beauty for me.

Asian: Cheng Pei-pei, Li Ching, Karena Lam, Kelly Chen, Brigitte Lin

My list would include Audrey Hepburn, Natalie Woods, Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly, Lena Horne, Dorothy Dandridge, Halle Berry and Natalie Portmann.

I don't find women like Angelina Jolie, Keira Knightly beautiful and Nicole Kidman to be beautiful.  They are all too skinny and half starved.

I find Anne Hathaway really beautiful; she has lovely doe eyes and she isn't as scarily thin as some of her counterparts:

I think Anne Hathaway really does have that doe-eyed look; great comparison! She definitely stands out.

I saw Helena Bonham Carter for the first time in Merlin and I thought she was unique and beautiful. I can't find a decent picture of her as Morgan Le Fey, though. Sad

Though I know that for all movie stars, the creation and maintenance of their look and their glamour takes self-discipline and work, the older ones seem to me to emanate something more "real" or authentic than Portman and Hathaway, in particular.  When I see them I always think, oh, wow, she is so skinny, she must starve herself, etc.

Kidman I think is very pretty, but not a radiant charismatic beauty.  Jolie to me comes closest to the glamour of the pre-70s, but I've never gotten too interested in her.   Cruz strikes me as the real deal - how she looks expresses her in some way, rather than manifesting the work she's done on herself.  Gong Li also has the star beauty quality I respond to.

I think Audrey Hepburn is the one I love to look at the most.

Oh, someone who belongs here is Sophia Loren.  "Hollywood" now means "non-Indian."

I've got five..here goes...

Audrey Tautou. Just...wonderfully cute/sweet/pretty/beautiful.

One of my favorite actresses, as well as fantastically gorgeous...Sophie Marceau

Catherine Zeta Jones. She also ranks as the one chick I'd be in love with if I decided to climb over the fence, if you know what I mean...~cough~

Mae West had a special something. Her charisma and style are what really made her 'beautiful' as opposed to just 'pretty'

And let's not forget the short-lived, budding talent cut down in her prime...none other than Sharon Tate.

Did Sharon Tate really have something of a following?  I'd never heard of her until her death, and I guess I thought of her as a "starlet," which meant a pretty girl who got pretty girl parts, but not more than that.  But I have missed a lot in my life, so maybe I missed Sharon Tate's career too!!

She was talented, she...just didn't get to have a very long career. Given a chance, she would have branched into better roles. She WAS married to Roman Polanski, at any rate. The title says 'actresses' not 'stars', so I included her in my list.

If the definition of Hollywood is non-Indian, then I would like to nominate Catherine Deneuve.

A friend of mine also has an obsession with Monica Vitti, which I can understand:

DeNeuve is definitely one of the most beautiful screen presences of all time, I think - and I screamed when I saw Monica Vitti!! I had forgetten about her, I love her too.

Those of you who like Natalie Portman and Anne Hathaway, do they seem to you to have as much presence as most of the older stars?  would you go to a movie to see one of them?

I like her as long as she keeps her hair open. Her face looks all weird when she has her hair tied up, or pulled back.

For me, there's only one - Irčne Jacob. *swoon*

Dorothy Dandridge was a gorgeous actress in the 50's whose career never really took off because she wasn't white and didn't fit the roles that African American actresses could get back then.

And whenever I look at Halle Berry I have a seizure because she's so gorgeous.
