This scene from mili is one of my all time favorites.

That FYI is Amrish Puri.

This is a classic example of a style i affectionately call, 'an amitabh suit.'

Classic guest appearance by switzerland.

I think I wore that same sweatsuit 15 years ago. I plead "my mommy dressed me" and "it was the early '90s"

No it isn't, it's Kabir Bedi, the general from MHN (among many, many other things).

There were some great costumes in this decade! I like the song number costumes especially, over the top and colorful. I also like some of the sari blouses from this time.

These posts are amazing. I think the guys' outfits are a little more embarrassing, but I'm a total sucker for the cotton saris with the big graphic prints, like the one Cairbre posted.  I was watching Mili the other night, it was just a festival of crazy sari prints.  Like an episode of the Brady Bunch, but more fabric!
I'm new to screen-capping, so apologies for the bad quality of these:

Mili:

I love the elephant on the border of this one:

The quality of this one is terrible, but this is Shobana's brown sari when she's doing the laundry in Amar Akbar Anthony:

Jaya's wearing another crazy print at the beggining of Silsila:

Thanks for posting these snaps, dustdevil! They bring back fond memories. I/our family have loads of such pics with the mothers and aunties wearing these cotton print saris. My mom wears them daily to this day Smiley - apparently they're very comfy and never out of style, heh.

Beauty in simplicity - something Hindi cinema has lost.
