.....when trying to decide between a Citi Bank, ICICI and HDFC account, I'm leaning a lot towards ICICI Bank, simply because Shahrukh is their spokesman. Lips Sealed

Husband wants to know why and I can't articulate my reasoning.   Embarrassed

Exactly, there isn't much difference between one bank and another. So I think Vinita should tell her husband something like, all else being equal (because it is) may as well choose the one that has SRK as a brand ambassador!

Okay, I’m totally obsessed with Shah Rukh, I admit it freely.

But why?  I’ve tried to analyze this obsession but am not coming up with answers.  Physically, he’s small, 5’9” (some sites say 5’8”), he’s fit, but slender, almost skinny sometimes.  If we didn’t know him, he wouldn’t stand out in a group of ten, much less in a crowd.  He has a flat forehead, prominent nose (especially in profile), a slight overbite, crooked teeth, almost pointed ears and big lips.  Taken individually each characteristic does not fit into the handsome or even nice looking category.  But for some reason, when you put them all together into the package that is Shah Rukh, add in dark and expressive eyes, dancing eyebrows and lashes that actually cast shadows on his cheeks, boundless energy and then top it all with a thick mop of black hair you have a man who actually makes women, from teens to grannies, go weak at the knees just looking at him.  He’s made some great movies, some not so great and some down right stinkers, but his fans love them all.  Why?  What is it about this man that sets him so far above all the others in so many fans’ minds?  We worry about him over working, not eating right, not resting enough, his smoking, his family, his traveling, his injuries, the list is endless.  We surf the net looking for new pictures, new articles, any bit of news we can find on him, just to assure ourselves that he’s still there, that he’s not a fantasy that has disappeared over night.  We discuss every movie, interview and video that we find.  We wait, mostly impatiently, for each new film release and then discuss every nuance of every scene.  We know every gesture, look, feeling that he has on screen.  Why?  What is it that makes one average looking man into an obsession for so many fans?  And of course this particular thread, “You know you are obsessed with Shahrukh Khan when…,”   has 99 pages of obsession.  Why?

I can’t explain it, it just is.

The dimples, the crooked mischievous smile, the sad eyes, the Adam’s apple, heck I’ve even seen his vaccination scars discussed in depth.  We’ve discussed and dissected the fashions he wears in movies, his hair cuts, whether he uses too much gel or not enough.  And lest I forget, his stubble vs. a mustache.  But, it’s all those things and more.  There is some indefinable “quality” about him that sets him apart from other mortals.  The physicality of him isn’t enough, the personality we see on the screen isn’t enough nor is the man we read about in articles and books or see in interviews and videos.  Perhaps it’s the sum of all of it?  I don’t know, I can’t explain it, but for many he is the epitome of ……what?  Lover, friend, husband, son, brother, father, boy next door, the bad boy we’re attracted to but are afraid of, the nice boy we look up to, what is he exactly?  And how does he do it?  How does he make us love him when he throws a girl off a roof, or stalks another girl relentlessly, or terrorizes a married woman before murdering her husband?  It’s easy to love him as Suri, or Raj, or Raul or Amar or Vijay, but we love him as Shah Ruhk also, a man we don’t “know” and will never meet.  Each of us can describe scenes in his movies that we haven’t even seen in months or maybe years.  We can all hear a song from a movie or see a picture of a scene and know exactly which movie it’s from and in many cases can sing the words or quote the dialogue.  How can he make us remember him so well?  He keeps saying in interview after interview that he is an entertainer, a performer, it’s his job, but how does he make us love ‘him’?  Because we do.  Not just the characters he plays, but him, the man.  Each fan loves him in one way or another, we either want him, or we want to be like him.

Happy Birthday, Shahrukh!

Why is this thread so dead?   I found it on page 6!

YKYAOWSRK when..... you wait more than five hours to watch Ra.One.

I had planned on meeting up with the Dallas BW?ers on Saturday, October 29th.  I even had my tickets purchased.

Then I found out that Ra.One would be showing on Diwali in OKC.  I bought tickets for the 2D show at 11 am and the 3D show at 2:30 pm.  We got to the movie theater at 10:30a.m and were directed at the correct theater.  At 11:30, I realized they were showing an American movie.

We left the theater and walked out to find the manager coming for us. Ra.One had still not arrived, she said.  She was looking at a noon arrival time.  In the meantime, we could eat anything at the concession stand and watch any movie we wanted.  The kids gorged on candy, which I usually don't buy for them.

A friend of mine was going to join us for the 3D show at 2:30pm.  I called her and told her the 2D movie was late but should start at 1pm. She joined us at about 12:30pm.

At 1:30pm the movie still hadn't arrived. The kids were bored, we watched Dolphin Tale in 3D. Made me sicker than a dog.  When Dolphin Tale finished, the manager came to tell me that Ra. One, 2D had arrived and that they had been waiting for us to finish Dolphin Tale to begin it.

My Telugu movie contact was showing 7aum Arivu with English subtitles at 7pm in Tulsa.  I called him and cancelled our tickets.

At 4:00 pm, we finally began watching Ra.One. There were only eight people in the theater.

Of course, I still went to Dallas, a four hour drive from here, not only to watch Ra.One again but also to meet up with the Dallas BW?ers.

I know that I'm obsessed with Shah Rukh, and if you are reading this, you probably are too, but there are some who are even more obsessed than we are.  Please see below. (From today's Hindustani Times)

SRK's die-hard fan builds shrine to him
Reuters
Lucknow, November 02, 2011

Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan has a legion of fans all over the world, but not many will be able to beat Vishal Singh's obsession with the star.

The 38-year-old Indian businessman has plastered every square inch of his house with Khan's pictures and spent his honeymoon waiting outside the actor's house in Mumbai, hoping to catch a glimpse of his idol.

"I will do anything that will make Shah Rukh Khan happy," Singh, who runs a homeopathic medicine business from Lucknow city, told Reuters.

Singh's house is a shrine to Khan. There are cutouts of Khan on the ceiling, the television and even on cushions. Singh has even changed his name to Vishahrukh Khan.

"No one can be like Shah Rukh Khan, but I wanted my name to have his name. My children are named Simran and Aryan, which is his son's name," he said. Simran is the female lead in one of Khan's biggest movies.

His family was initially less than impressed with his adoration of the star, Singh said.

"My parents were very worried about me, but now they know that my love for Shah Rukh will never end," he added.

Quick English translation of the Hindi bits, please excuse the mistakes.

1:46 That you come here so lovingly.  I know that you have other work too.  Every year I think, " There won't be a better birthday than this one."  Yet each year you give me so much love. I genuinely don't think of you as media.

2:15 That with how much love you celebrate my birthday, as though there is an atmosphere of happiness in the whole country.

2:25 I know 90% of you by face, 50% of you by name and 2-4 by their wrong works.  But you love me so much, I can't believe it.  God willing, I pray that every year when you come here I can make better arrangements for you. Truthfully, I don't celebrate my birthday with anyone else.  I only celebrate it with you.

2:52 I wait for when you come.  My kids come from school and say,

That part about why he was wearing sunglasses made me teary eyed too.

His birthday reminds me of something - after Ra.One, my friend asked about Rajnikanth's cameo - who what why - and was he a big movie star? She saw Kareena cover her head. Tongue It's so hard to describe how big an Indian movie star is in terms of American stars.

Some of it reminds me of footage from Beatlemania, but it's more than that.

Anyway... seeing him in this video, on the big screen in Ra.One ... nope, the criticisms of his acting, negative things... they all fall away.

Also, I told my mom Tuesday was my boyfraaaaaand's birthday.

Hi,
I've just watched on youtube SRK's performance in the course of the Marrakech Film Festival - here is the link and the title:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Si53Y38F-cg
Shah Rukh Khan at Jemaa El Fna Square - Marrakech Film Festival
At about 4.00, this is what I thought:
You know you are obsessed with Shahrukh Khan when... you actually enjoy his singing off key!  Nice performance!

A friend and I went to see Don 2 last night and this African-American kid saw our tickets, and goes, "I love Don 2." So I stopped to chat with him a bit. His enthusiasm reminded me of when I first saw Shahrukh's movies.

He said he watched Ra.One a couple of months ago and that got him hooked. And when he saw Don 2, he couldn't believe that it was the same actor.  And he went on and on and on about how great Shahrukh is.   Grin

We finally walked away because it was getting close to starting time for Don 2 and I heard him say to someone else, "I love Don 2."

Hitchcock's Axiom: A good story is life with the dull parts taken out.

You were worried why the door was not opened.  On the other side of the door, I was waiting for it to open.  Nandu in Athadu

Zaara, I am a very simple man.  I speak frankly and I understand things simply.
