The kissing scene goes missing

The viewers were not happy to see an elderly couple lip-locked and hence after much consideration he decided to remove the scene from the film.

Elderly? Elderly? OMG. Surely not; I mean, he's not even 50 yet!

Really? For some reason, he looks older than 50. I think it's all the booze and cigarettes. Brad Pitt is turning 45 and he looks so damn HIT still and young!

And Pierce Brosnan is 55 and yet he looks younger than Sanjay.

Yup. Sanjay was born in July of 1959 so he is 49 years old. I agree that he looks older than that, but certainly not elderly Roll Eyes

I'd also like to add that the ending is again predictable and truly annoying.... I hate films that basically sum up things for you...

I don't even remotely think of Sanjay as old either...

I saw this yesterday and while I wasn't disappointed, I wasn't blown away either. All the intensity promised in the Mit Jaaye promo didn't really come through. Dhoom only promised to be a flashy caper and did it very well, I thought Kidnap promised a little more and just went along the Dhoom route. I didn't really understand the reasoning behind Minissha's hooker clothes (does she not own anything that is not navel exposing?). Before I saw the film, I thought casting Vidya as the mother was a weird decision, but I actually liked her in the role. She does MILF-y very well. They even threw in a line about her having Sonia when she was 18 in order to explain her obviously young age. And I liked her and Sanjay together. Was I the only one who laughed at the last scene where Kabir shows up at the party? The way Sonia and Kabir acted, it seemed like they exes awkwardly brought together in some romantic comedy and not kidnapper and victim.

Frankly, it could have been worse. Uday Chopra could have played Kabir and creeped me out.

Also, can we please make a list of Indian girl names that are not Sonia (Kidnap, Drona, Singh is Kinng) and send it to B'wood writers.

Objection, your honour! Please remember that during the shooting of Kidnap, Sanju was first anxiously waiting for his verdict for months, then he was sentenced and incarcerated, and the last part of the shooting he did after his stint in jail and being released on bail. I'm sure if Brad and Pierce had had to go through the plights Sanju had to go through, they wouldn't look so nice today either.

Of course Sanju consumed booze and cigarettes - but one should be fair enough to remember why he did it so massively at the time of the Kidnap shooting. He's not just a "usual addict". And he had an ordeal to go through which would have cracked many others less strong than him.

The lines that you see on his face, there are lines of someone who smokes alot and also drinks alot. He is known for excessive drinking and smoking isn't he? Even before Kidnap, I have always thought he looked older than his age. In Munna Bhai, it looked so awkward seeing him with Vidya cuz he could be her father. I saw the movie Virudh, and I sometimes had to laugh when Amitabh's character referred to Sanjay's character almost like his son because the way Amitabh looks, it seems that he isn't much older than Sanjay.

And him looking old and haggard is not just because of the stuff he was going through at that moment, it's years of alocohol abuse and cigarettes. I have read he took drugs too. Those things take a toll on your body and it's obvious on how he looks now.

I have nothing against Sanjay but I'm just saying he just looks old.

The first movie I ever saw him in I called my sister and said this actor looked like he had just got out of rehab. In looking it up, he had. Alcohol leaves a distinctive look on the face. I do my readings at a bookstore where there are a lot of AA meetings. I know the look. He has had a rough time in life, I like him as an actor, but he obviously has emotional problems to have turned to drugs and alcohol the way he did.

I don't know much about Sanjay Durtt because I am not a big fan of his but I have read stuff about him and you know, he's a privileged child, whose parents were both known and beloved in the industry. Whatever he went through, he brought that upon himself.

It's an old tale, privileged kids from prominent families, may it be in showbusiness or politics, they tend to think they are above the law and can do whatever they want. He just met and hung out with the wrong people.

That's why I admire showbiz children like Abhishek, Esha, Shahid, Surya, & Nagarjuna, they don't do anything or get themselves in anything illegal or unllawful, that lands them in court or jail, and malign their famous parent(s).

Sorry to butt in on the discussion, but in defense of Sanjay Dutt, it couldn't have been easy having his mother die the day that his very first movie came out.

And that's supposed to be an excuse for him to behave badly? Or get into drugs and excessive drinking and smoking?  I'm sure it wasn't easy for Abhishek growing up and hearing the whole country talking about your Dad and his affair with Rekha? And whatever other affairs he's had with other actresses. Also coming into the industry and people attacking you from every corner and saying that you are not as good as your father. And having grown up as a privileged as he is, he could of gone either way. But he didn't. He grew up happy and well-balanced man.

How about Smita Patil's son? It can't be easy being reminded that your mother had died during childbrith (delivering him). He was raised by his father. But did he turn out bad? No.

That's what pisses me off, showbusiness kids who make excuses about how much pressure there was and all these temptations. And people continue to make excuses for them. I'm sorry but it is tougher to grow up with no money and no food to eat or not knowing where your next meal is coming from. If they only looked around and see how much poverty there is around India, then maybe, they will appreciate what they have and not abuse it.

They never had to stuggle like some other unknown actor in the industry. They have it handed to them on a silver platter and it's just up to them to know where to go from there.

If you have respect for yourself and your family, you will not behave that way. Obviously,

Just because you're rich does not automatically mean you're going to be happy. I think that's a very dangerous assumption to make.

There's a difference between someone who 'behaves badly' - which implies willfulness - and someone who suffers from an addiction, which is beyond voluntary control.

How about Smita Patil's son? It can't be easy being reminded that your mother had died during childbrith (delivering him). He was raised by his father. But did he turn out bad? No.

From what I read post-JTYJN Prateik Babbar was raised by his mother's family after his father went back to his first wife following Smita Patil's death. And I think it's too soon for a verdict on how he has 'turned out'.

I'm not saying that at all. But all these problems he brought all these on himself. Nobody forced him into it.

Well, I'm sure he was old enough to know that drugs aren't good for you right? He got addicted because it was his choice to take drugs or drink. There's no excuse for that.  And the stuff he was accused of recently, well, he can't say that he didn't know that he was getting into illegal things and the people involved were bad people? He chose this path.

I've had friends who told me to try marijuana, and I never did. Or even ecstacy. I just didn't see the point.

Sanjay Dutt made his first film when he was 21 or 22. When his mother died, he got into drugs.

You can say it is still early to say but so far there's no sign of Prateek going the wrong way. The fact that his mother died during childbirth and his father left him with his grandparents to raise him, he could have gone the other way too even in his early teens.

Yes, he chose his path, and he made the best of it. How many people would have managed to overcome a heavy drug addiciton like his one? How many people would have managed to revive a shattered career after 16 months of incarceration because of terrorism charges which were false? How many people would have managed not to crack under the pressure Sanju has been living with for more than fifteen years now?

Of course he made mistakes, but he took them as a lesson to learn from them, he openly admits them and moves on in life instead of giving up and resigning. How many people did he prevent or cure from drugs by talking openly about his own addicition and the way he managed to get over it, or by supporting NGOs fighting against drugs (not only with his money but also by talking to addicts and helping them getting the courage to fight their addiction)? For this is Sanjay Dutt too - a side of his many people just don't see. I respect him immensely for the human being he is. Call me an idiot if you like, I don't care.

By the way, there is a Sanjay Dutt discussion thread in this forum. Could we here please return to Kidnap?

Good idea! Grin

I saw this again yesterday and yep, still like it. I see Sanjay Ghadvi has issued a "defence" of the movie - point by point I kid you not - and frankly it wasn't necessary. People are either going to get what you're trying to sell or they won't and no amount of post-mortem explanation is going to help. As it is, I'm finding that more people who've seen the film have actually liked it compared to those who didn't. Poor man sounded bitter though.

And perhaps it's a good thing it released with Drona, that's taken the brunt of the bad press and bad box-office. Kidnap isn't setting the box-office on fire but it's looking like it won't be quite the washout people were expecting after the bad reviews came out.
