Streaming never worked very well for me because my computer is too small (why would I want to watch a movie on a laptop screen when I have a big flatscreen TV right there?) and even with the volume turned up I could barely hear anything.

I watch Netflix streaming on my large flat screen TV.  My husband hooked up a ethernet capable Sony blu-ray DVD player (with google TV) to the TV.  Most blu-ray DVD players are capable of streaming Netflix.  And I can now also  surf the internet on my TV  and watch the free movies offered on Youtube  Smiley

Oh, I know it's possible, but it requires a level of technical...um..."being-able-to-figure-things-out-ness" that I don't have or particularly want.  I'm happy with DVDs.  I like being able to hold something in my hand and know it's there, not have to worry that it might have disappeared into the ether next time I want to watch it or listen to it or read it.

OK  - I understand now  Smiley   I like the DVDs because they have a menu selection for the songs in the movies - when I just want to listen to them and not wade thru the whole movie.  I can't do that with Netflix.

^ From the article: "Hastings has repeatedly taken the blame for mismanaging the announcement of the price increase in July and then making things worse two months later by trying to spin off Netflix's DVD-by-mail rental service into a separate website called Qwikster. Since scrapping that idea in October, Hastings has been trying to repair some of the damage."

We don't know all the factors which went into these outwardly crazy business moves.  I assume part of it was trying to get rights to stream better content -- the current streaming options are very limited compared to what one can get from Netflix on disc.  Netflix also has to be concerned with the US Post Office crumbling.

The streaming options have always been a poorer selection than what was available on disk.  But what I notice is how much less is available on instant, at least in the Bollywood and other Indian movies department, than used to be available on Instant.

Yash Raj had a bunch of their films streaming and then they pulled them this spring for youtube - I think because they can charge the viewer for each film on youtube.

A lot of UTV's films are streaming.

I totally agree. I had hoped that with the new emphasis on streaming that the Indian selection would improve, but that definitely has not been the case.

According to Instantwatcher, "new" Hindi titles are being added on Jan 5. Some of these were previously available:

    Band Baaja Baaraat
    Chandni
    Dhoom
    Dil Bole Hadippa!
    Dil To Pagal Hai
    Doosra Aadmi
    Kabul Express
    Mohabbatein
    Nakhuda
    Noorie
    Salaam Namaste
    Sins
    Tashan
    Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic

BTW, I love the IW disclaimer about the trustworthiness of this info:

The rumors were true - a ton of YRF are available. Lamhe, Darr, Silsila, and a bunch from the last decade and even this year.

This would happen at the END of my vacation, right? At least I finally get a chance to see Tere Bid Laden.

They put a lot of good movies back up, and some that I don't think had been up in instant form before.

Mohabbatein, Chak de! India, Veer Zaara, Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara, RNBDJ.

And one non-Bolly that I'm delighted to see up--Dharm.

Just noticed that a number of titles that had been languishing for a while in the "Saved DVD" section have been bumped up to my regular queue. 1942: A Love Story, Dosar (Bengali), Zubeidaa & Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai are some of the titles

There used to be, last year IIRC.
