Netflix: why don't they have these movies?

Netflix does not have K3G or KANK - why not?
They also don't have Inner/Outer Worlds of Shah Rukh Khan.
I think it has to be something to do with whoever is selling the dvd in the US - Netflix basically has all Hindi movies that anyone ever heard ot.

Netflix used to have both KANK and Inner/Outer Worlds of Shahrukh Khan. I think when the dvds have gotten lost/damanged, though, they haven't replaced them. I've noticed other Hindi dvds that I've rented from them that are no longer available, too.
They haven't had K3G for the last two years since I've been renting from them, though. Like you suggested, I think there must be some issue with the distributor. I can't imagine why they wouldn't have replaced those movies, otherwise.

They don't have a lot of hindi movies. No Mangal Pandey, no Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani... I'm often annoyed. Thank god for nehaflix, iTalkies, and (shh) youTube!

Do they have a link where members can suggest titles to purchase?

I recall that they do; if I recall correctly, I made several suggestions years ago when I joined, though I don't think I ever followed up to see if it made a difference.

I don't think it's a thing where they don't know enough to order these titles, as they basically have everything - I think they also have had KANK. So maybe it is a matter of replacing discs, I hope so. But I'll still go suggest K3G.
I used to write to them when I saw extremely inaccurate dvd info (like listing Farah Khan as male and an actor), but they didn't seem to respond so I gave up.

I use Netflix a lot and agree, they don't seem to be very responsive at all to written comments. You see lots of corrections in the reviews (that is, reviewers advising viewers to watch out for mistakes that Netflix has made in their descriptions, and that kind of thing) that Netflix personnel do not appear to read or act upon. (However when I had a technical problem, the phone people were great).
I have noticed that Netflix sometimes adds titles to the "save" category not long after I try to find them through a search, so maybe if enough people search for a title they don't have, it triggers something. The Save list is titles they might buy and you can get on the list and when the title is bought, it will migrate to the Queue. But titles can stay on the "save" list so long that I end up getting tired of waiting and buying them anyway. KANK, for example.
Thank goodness I learned about Nehaflix from this Forum. At least if I have to buy movies just to see them, I know I have a good vendor. (BookBarn is one I bought some titles from through Amazon and still do occasionally, and they have been very good about returns so I'd recommend them too since if a movie has a flaw, there's no financial risk involved.)
I get the impression that distribution rights to Indian movies tend to change and maybe Netflix doesn't like to deal with them because of that, and perhaps also because Indian DVDs tend to be riddled with technical problems even when they're not pirated (as people report in this forum).
But you'd think they could at least get the big ones, like KANK and Mohabbatein! I hated having to buy those, even though they had SRK in them, because I didn't like them well enough to have bought them on their own merits. I love being able to sample a movie first through Netflix, when possible. (Where I live, the video stores only have a few Bollywood movies and so far they aren't taking my advice about buying more.)

I think Netflix did have most of these, but now does not - I am pretty sure I rented K3G originally, for example.

It can be frustrating when you want to recommend movies to people... for example, I'd love to use Rang de Basanti for my Meetup movie club, but because Netflix doesn't have it there's no easy venue to recommend. (I got it from my local Indian grocery store)
Heh, also, I can't seem to find Dil to Pagal Hai ANYWHERE(for rent, I purchase sparingly), and it's sat under 'saved' for the longest time. I yearn to experience the spandex, and fate keeps it from me!

I haven't been able to find Rang de Basanti anywhere and would love to see it. I finally got tired of waiting for Netflix to buy Dil to Pagal Hai, and found a copy on Amazon.com. Here's the page
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00006JI44/ref=dp_olp_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1220403408&sr=1-1
Here's a funny thing about that. Nehaflix lists it as currently out of stock; but I bought a copy from Nehaflix1 through Amazon.com. I immediately watched it and really enjoyed it; it was a good copy with the hologram thingy and lots of over-packaging. It didn't have any special features but it did have all the spandex, leather pants, and bizarre exercise outfits you could dream of. Cost $11.40 plus 2.98 postage (in US); pricey, but worth it (to me at least)! There were several far cheaper offerings on that same page, but I stuck with a vendor I knew as I've had problems with what I got from some of the others.

You can also buy Dil to Pagal Hai directly from Yash Raj:

iTalkies has most of these movies for rent that Netflix doesn't have, I think. They seem to have RDB and DTPH.

Thanks - I didn't know anything about these rentals. Are they just done online? Work with all platforms? (I have XP/broadband and no problem with Netflix viewing.) I went to Eros Online a while back and they didn't offer subtitles yet. What about these others? Any recommendations/advice on using them? Thanks again! Would far rather rent than buy, at least for the first viewing, and just buy ones I love.

I suspect people steal them. I rented RDB from netflix a year ago, and then suddently they didn't have it anymore. I think I also got Dil to Pagal Hai from them too a few years back.

Do you mean iTalkies.com? It's a DVD rental service that works just like Netflix. There is a thread about it here:

For online movies with subtitles, there's jaman:

Someday I'll do Italkies! Can't justify it in my budget at the moment with time taken as a factor(I barely keep up with my Netflix!), but oh, the day will come...
I simply may just have to buy DPH - I'm sure if I don't like it I can find a victim for the spandex, although I am a sucker for SRK - Mads!
Or Madhuri in damn near anything...

Every movie I have seen that I did not see in a theatre, I have rented from them, almost. I'm sure they don't have just one copy of things.
I guess I'll put some of the unavailable ones at the bottom of my queue, that way I can see when they do become available, also the "demand" may prod them. My queue is several hundred long.

Same here. In addition to several hundred in my regular queue, I have quite a queue at the bottom there, of "saved" titles they don't have yet. They'd be smart to use requests for Saved titles to gauge demand and make buying decisions, so I feel it's my patriotic duty to put anything I want to see on that list. Right now I have about 50 of those Saved dvds, and most of them are Indian movies. They do eventually buy some of them.

OK - NETFLIX PROJECT - if you are a Netflix member and want to participate -- easiest way, click on name of SRK or another star you favor, and add any of their titles marked SAVE to your queue - the ones you want Netflix to have. I did KANK, K3G, DTPH, maybe even Devbdas (which I do not like but which they should keep carrying).
If your queue is long you won't end up receiving these in the mail of course.

I've been doing that. There were a few that I gave in and bought from nehaflix but I left them in my 'saved queue' on netflix so they would know that there's demand. I'm assuming that's why they offer a saved queue.

I live in a little Podunk(very small and very unworldly) town in Pennsylvania, USA that has no video store that carries any Indian movies so I joined Netflix in July 08. I've rented about 50 or so movies so far and I agree with everyone about the list of movies they don't have available. I finally gave up waiting on some of them and just bought them from Amazon. These are the ones I haven't been able to get so far...J

I agree! I sent back by mistake my own dvd. It was of all movies KANK. My daughter , nephew and myself were extras.
(along with a few bwhat members)
Email sent by customer service said they did not find it. They gave me a $10.00 discount. When I called and said that was unsatisfactory the woman said to buy it on Amazon with the money saved from the discount.
I can't tell you how upset I am about this. I told her I want them to buy it and send it to me. I may cancel but it's true they have lots of selection UNLIKE Blockbuster who have next to nothing!
.ps to make matters worse they told me to keep their movie .Kamoshi...a real stinker.

So does that mean if we ask for Kamoshi from Netflix we would get KANK?
Hmmm, you know we could start replacing bad films with better ones they refuse to carry on purpose

I checked, all my SAVED Bollywhat movies are still saved -- are they phasing out Indian movies? I have been so pleased with the big selection. I do bet they wear out faster than US movies.

Seems like they add new ones but don't bother to replace them when they are lost or worn out.

They're supposed to be famous for their software which is so responsive to demand, but they don't seem to have included a way to deal with demand for Bollywood movies.
