I want the tattoo to say: Love and Beauty

Now I know several phrases that can translate to that, but I want it to look pretty when written in the Devanagari script. Do you get what I mean? Now, these are the phrases I had in mind.

  • Ishq aur ruup
  • Pyaar aur ruup

From these, can someone please tell me which would look better (I'm getting it on the lower back by the way) or please feel free to interject your own ideas. Bollywhat is an important part of me and I want you guys to be a part of it!

Karan: *shakes head* Be specific please.
Priyanka: Um, she just always has a lot to say about me. So I知 presuming I知 important in her life.

Q: So Priyanka you open up the newspaper and see Kareena saying, 'Heroine will be better than Fashion so who cares about a national award.'
Priyanka: Well, I guess if you don't have one... then, sour grapes, what do I say!

Why don't you have a temporary one done first?  You could get a mehndi tattoo and see how it looks.

Tanya has the right idea...

Besides you may want to get a tattoo which has lettering which you find attractive, you might not like the devanagri of what you want in english.

If you do want love and beauty you may want to think about substituting 'husn' or 'khobsurati' for ruup

Were you looking for what the Devanagari script looks like for each of the words, Aishwarya4eva?

AFAIK, ruup means form or appearance or shape. It's not the same as beauty/beautiful, though in some contexts it can denote beauty.

Well, I am and they look weird to me as well.

Love = प्यार, प्रेम, इश्क़
Beauty = ख़ूबसूरती, सौंदर्य, हुस्न

Some natural sounding combinations might be:

हुस्न और इश्क़ or, हुस्न-ओ-इश्क़
प्रेम और सौंदर्य
प्यार और सुंदरता

The first one (हुस्न-ओ-इश्क़) is closest to the "Bollywood" vocabulary.

I don't know aesthetically what you had in mind but my best friend suggested that I get my tattoo in a mehndi-type color (sort of a yellow toned medium brown color) instead of black. (A suggestion which I took and it turned out REALLY well.) And if you do get a color or colors, I would advise you to take anything that is the exact color that you want in case they need to mix the dye. Describing colors verbally just doesn't work.

Re: temporary tattoos

What about just using henna cones? There will be some in an Asian shop somewhere.. are there any near where you live perhaps?

I know very little Hindi, and I sure as hell can't write it. . I'd like to learn someday, though.  In any case, I think it's an interesting idea, but like some people have suggested, perhaps you should get a temporary one first so you can see how it looks?  Also, trying to get the wording/phrasing right like you're doing here is very, very important.

I personally wouldn't want to have my body labeled with something incorrect. . er. . not-so-correct. .

its just as important as to whom does the actual inking...if its someone who doesnt even know what hindi is he might just make a pigs breakfast of the whole thing. Even if you get what you want written it might not look very nice.

Personally, I never thought of that, but it is possible.  I  don't know.  I guess I never thought of this because I know some very talented artists.  They're hands are so skilled and they are so talented, they can copy script in languages they're not even familiar with and just make it look amazing.

They don't use carbon paper but it is some sort of temporary powdery dye to transfer exactly what you have drawn/printed out and given them. At least, I know I went to a reputable tattoo parlour and that is what they did for me.

Whatever you do, just make sure you're absolutely positive before you get the real tattoo done. Henna's no problem, but I've heard horror stories about tattoo removal.  Sad (but I still want Saif to get a certain tattoo removed... Roll Eyes)

And post a picture of your tattoo if you do get it done! I'd love to see it.
