Inspired by the thread on songs that got butchered by remixes:

Of course remakes aren't often better or as good as the original, but what remixes out there are okay? I don't know of too many and I'd love to hear some nice ones.

I think some of Bally Sagoo's remixes are pretty good:

Noorie

Dil Cheez Hai Kya
(I'm actually not sure which song this is a remix of, though I know it is one.)

Chura Liya

Any others?

This is a remix to Helen's song Mungda O Mungda:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPEQInxFD3o

The original which is soooo much more better than it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2O9uTqOCVBg

I don't like remixes in general but this particular one had some decency in it. It might be due to the fact that I looooooooooove the old song with a passion, but it was ok. Just don't pay attention to the video. Enjoy! Wink

Yeah.  I can't believe I forgot about Bally Sagoo.  I think he was the original remixer of songs.  And he did do a good job. The Indipop albums Bollywood Flashback and Rising from the East were the two remix albums, over 10 years ago.  I think it was the whole bunch of remixes afterwards that started going downhill.

I LOVE Dill Cheez Hai Kya.  It's been so long since I heard it, though. The original is a Pakistani song.  I think I heard the original a long while ago.  But here are youtube versions of the live versions.

I like the remix of Deewangi Deewangi, surprisingy, I like it more than the original. Is faster, more beaty and IDK...just better..

the remix of mp3's title song is good, as is 'jeena kya teri bina' and 'miss you everyday' from kya love story hai. 'aashiqui meri' remixed from 36 china town is also much better than the original, which i found to be too slow. overall, i tend to like remixes better than the original, but sometimes they go too far and get too techno and lose the song in the process.

Yeah, pretty much all of my favorite remixes are Bally Sagoo's. He has another one, Dheere Dheere, that's pretty good also, but not on the same level as Dil Cheez. Thanks for the link! Shabnam's singing was great, though I liked the remix better, probably because I heard it first.

overall, i tend to like remixes better than the original, but sometimes they go too far and get too techno and lose the song in the process.
I agree with you. I hate when the song barely resembles the original. What I like about is when they add a great beat and makes it a little more "modern," but they retain the magic of the older versions. I also can't stand when they add bad rapping (good rap or dub is fine, though.)

I have a nice cover of Kabhi Kabhi by Baby H. Couldn't find it on youtube though. It's slow and sweet, though not as good as the original.

I'm actually a fan of remixes.

While many remixes(or, in most cases, covers) are let down by awful videos and/or pointless and annoying rap, I usually enjoy them.  Enjoying the song depends on whether I like the vocalist; the 're-working;' the video itself; or, the hot babes(shallow, I know) or, all factors.

Also, as someone who came to 'Classic' films through remixes of their songs, I have always made efforts to hear the original song if I have liked the re-working.  Which has opened up a whole world of Hindi cinema which I probably would not have experienced, without remixes.

It is interesting that tastes differ too.  For example, I'm not that keen on the Bally Sagoo version of Chura Liya as I am on the one that was disliked in the related thread.  Although it doesn't help that most of the video to the DJ Hot Remix 3 version, mentioned by Siri90, is a composite from another video.

I lurrve the version of Mera Gaye Piya Rangoon though the video is admittedly awful.

As someone who heard the album Ek Hasina Thi before I heard the song, I did enjoy DJ Aqueel's version.  The song does not include the telephone conversation that intrudes on the music in the video, though wow, I was glad to see the three delightful gals featured on the albums cover(The one in the middle is *drools*  Wink)

Here's my list, with the originals and the remix following them (Apologies for any duplication):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlD1Uhs0mTQ

Vaseegara - Minnale.  The original Tamil film featuring Maddy and Reema Sen.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4w0XTWqASkI

Zara Zara - Rehna Hai Terre dil mein.  The Hindi re-make with Maddy and Diya Mirza.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DV7B_ItNAPk

Zara Zara - Baby Doll version.  Love the vocalist.  The same one as on Mera Piya Gaye Rangoon mentioned above.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzbpGWAJPzg

Rangeela Re - Rangeela.  Not a big fan of Asha's voice but, Urmilla....mmmm.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWP3pEzCYcA

Rangeela Re - DJ Hot Remix 3 version.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjnFG30fQvg

Dil Ke Armaan - Nikaah.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpSH-tI00N8

Dil Ke Armaan - remix featuring Sophie.  I'm a big fan of Sophie Chowdary's voice.  It captures the atmosphere of the original song, don't you think?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mraQHtX9JnM

Chura Liya hai Tumne - Yaadon Ki Baaraat.  I find it hard to keep my jaw from dropping to the floor when the camera zooms in to Zeenat near the start of the song.  No idea what I'm talking about?  Watch and observe, friend....  Smiley

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXoMAP0iEwQ

Chura Liya hai  - DJ Hot Remix 3 version.  Awful video composite of the Dil Ke Armaan remix but, preferable, to me, over the Bally Sagoo version.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SbGTmmPlUg

Tu Hai Wohi - Yeh Vaada Raha.  This is the 'complete' version, that I assume was 'cut up' in the original film.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CS_3oixTD84

Tu Hai Wohi - DJ Aqueel (Ek Hasina Thi) version.  I've already mentioned this above.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oFt8O1rrs4

Ek Pardesi - Phagun.  Good stuff.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M80ZTNXVsXE

Ek Pardesi Mera Dil - Baby Love featuring Sophie (again).  Really like this version, though I know it isn't liked by some.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcUbOhcutSs

Jhumka gira re - Mera Saaya.  Yeah, sounds like there are earings all over the place in that town.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFxqP7tv4Dg

Jhumka gira re - Asha Bhosle feat. Riya Sen.  Not a big fan of Asha but, I couldn't find the Bombay Girls version, which I love.  However, it features Riya, who I think is really cute.  Ahem.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnlRLR5quJI

Mera babu chail - GHAR DWAAR.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgX2EVClqEs

Mera Babu - Baby Love version feat. Sophie (yet again).  Marvelous.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9HD2EyjatA

ghar aaya mera pardesi - Awaara.  Raj and Nargis in heaven.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9cXcg5E03w

Ghar aaya mera pardesi - Sophie version (Yep, her again, again.  Can't find the re-mix video, though some enterprising soul has reworked the original footage.

...and finally:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMzoP3hytl8

Chalte Chalte - Pakeezah.  Love this song, great, almost surreal atmosphere.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEldbKS5f68&NR=1

Chalte Chalte and Drum & Bass.  Yes! It works too.  Nice video too.

 Glad to have helped, AB!

I respect the fact that others may not like songs that I like for whatever reason (and I hope vice versa  Smiley).  We all have are own tastes after all...

I've searched for a video of that Ek Hasina Thi track for a while, so, I'm actually grateful to you AB.  In fact thanks to those who have contributed to both threads thus far.  Your efforts are appreciated!

On a different point:  It was kind of weird hearing Sophie 'miming' to another singers voice in Shaadi No.1.  I suppose the MD had his reasons but, why not use Sophie's voice?

Anyway, I hope to post more later...

This remix of Dil Kya Kare is one of my favorites, it even has a bit of Jay Z in it, I don't like rap alot but I was surprise how this guy did it, turned a really light hearted song into something really deep. Edit: and dark.

When I thought of good Bollywood remixes, the remix of Kaanta Laga by DJ Baby Doll was the first song that came into mind! I'm surprised no one else seems to have mentioned it so far... (or, of course, I've missed the post - apologies!) I still remember this song being played over and over and over (and over... yes, seriously!) again on TV when I was in India... oh, the memories this song brings back! Smiley And I remember all the hubbub over the 'raunchiness' of this video...

Haha... slightly ironic that I am getting nostalgic about remixes of old songs...! Cheesy

Ooops!  Sorry about the delay as I've only read your message today.

Anyway, the DVD with the video can be found here.  The DVD is "Sophie: Baby Love; Ek Pardesi Mera Dil Le Gaya" on the T Series.  This is from a British site but, I'm sure it will be available elsewhere.

I notice the Chalte chalte yunhi koi youtube clip has been taken down.

Could someone kindly help me find the MP3 of Harry Anand's remix of Ghar Jayegi Tar Jayegi? As seen in this dance performance http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=VKEDJ6eNd-k  The only one I can seem to find is the Baby Doll Hot Ones version http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9lllPMQArU online. Also I have a second regarding the Baby Doll one, is that Anjana Sukhani in the video because that's what I've heard, but I'm not sure if it's her or not? I think the girl is her if I'm not mistaken.
