I have one (yay college radio!), that I share with one of my best friends! It's an internet radio show, so anyone anywhere can listen. Smiley You just click on the Hi-Fi or Low- Fi buttons and it should work. It's from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sundays, eastern standard time in America. Wooo. The site is here: http://www.whrcradio.com/

We love to play songs that people request, so if you're listening, you can IM us and let us know what you want to hear. Smiley We play a looooot of Bollywood (because a lot of people ask for that) but we play a wide variety of things. Seriously.

Also I'm posting because I want to know about other radio shows that play music from South Asia. So let me know.

My mom has this annoying boom box that receives signals from an Indian Radio Station called RBC. My brother gave it to her for Mother's Day a while ago and it's horrible. There's too much static and white noise, no matter how many times we positioned and re-positioned the antenna. And when you do manage to hear a little, it's always old songs from ancient Amitabh movies, which I don't really enjoy listening to (not that I don't like watching the movies, I just can't stand old BW music). So if you don't like Oldies soundtracks I wouldn't reccomend RBC.  Tongue

There's a good little AM station called EBC in central New Jersey that plays popular Indian music from dawn to dusk daily. It's at 1070 AM. Somehow, they broadcast on the Web round the clock:

This is also a really good, comprehensive site:

Andromache, you have an awesome radio show! I'm listening to it right now (but not with chai and samosas...I have this theory that you can only drink chai if you're sick, and I didn't have samosas. However, I did pull out a box of pakodas from my fridge  Grin). I'm loving all the songs you're playing. You guys have a really great taste in music!

Red FM 93.1 Vancouver

www.redfm.ca

24 hours a day of South Asian programing. During the week the programming is mostly Punjabi/Hindi/Urdu and English while on the weekend there are other asian languages repesented such as Farsi, Malayalam, Sindhi, Bengali and Tami. There is also Hungarian and Serbian shows on weekends. But the majority of programing (and the best) is Punjabi and Hindi.

These are radio stations in UK, as far as I know they all play Hindi music. The first two have both English and Hindi programmes and play a mixture of old and new songs. I think kismat has late night religious music also.  Clubasia online mostly play very new music mostly by UK artists, song mixes and occasional oldies.

I don't know if there are any of these in Los Angeles?
I've never searched the SoCal radio options to check it out though.
Don't think I've heard any playing in the shops I frequent either, they usually just play bhajans or film soundtracks. [Bhajans more in the mornings at the stores owned by somewhat conservative Hindu families.]
