I wanted to start a thread on this since I'm more familiar with the 80s music and movies than most people on the forum.  The 80s era was considered bad but I enjoyed a lot of films and music, maybe cause I grew up with the films around that time.  Everyone's always talking about the oldies classic but never mentions the 80s era.

I uploaded a lot of songs from the 80s and will post here when I do.  I'm only posting the ones that I uploaded and later search for some of my faves of the 80s and upload some more.

Wow, thank you for those! I had heard Dheere Dheere and Main Duniya Bhula but didn't know which film they came from. LOL at the huge hair bow in Main Duniya Bhula!

I think you and I have had this discussion before on Nazia Hussain, but I also enjoy 80s music.  Smiley

Here is just a taste of my favorite soundtracks/songs:

Tridev--the entire soundtrack is awesome. And the lift from Gloria Estefan's 'Rhythm is Gonna Get You'  ('Oye Oye') is actually better than the original.
Listen here:   http://ww.smashits.com/music/hindi-film/songs/1879/tridev.html

Mr. India--Hawa Hawaai and Kaate Nahin Kat Te Yeh Din Yeh Raat are my favorites. If you haven't seen the picturization of the 'Kaate Nahin...' you are missing one of the 80s hottest scenes.
Listen here: http://ww.smashits.com/music/hindi-film/songs/1925/mr-india.html

Chandni--Awful movie (IMO) but good soundtrack! Especially 'Mere Haathon Mein Nau Nau Choodiyan' and 'Parbat Se Kali'. Listen here: http://ww.smashits.com/music/hindi-film/songs/1323/chandni.html

Nagina--what can I say? 'Mein Tera Dushman' is one of my favorite songs of all time. I also love 'Aaj Kal Yaad Kuch.'
Listen here:  http://ww.smashits.com/music/hindi-film/songs/4106/nagina.html

Naam--Naam has one of the most famous and beloved songs of Bollywood: 'Chitti Aaye Hai.' While the remainder of the songs are not as top notch, I personally like 'Veriya Ve' for it's biting tone and also 'Ameeron Ke Shaam' and 'Tu Kal Chala Jayega' because I LOVE Mohammed Aziz.
Listen here:  http://ww.smashits.com/music/hindi-film/songs/677/naam.html

And speaking of Mohammed Aziz, he is probably one of my favorite male playback singers of the 80s and early 90s. He has some AMAZING 80s songs. I would recommend checking them out on cooltoad here:
http://music.cooltoad.com/music/search.php?user=good_fella

Some of the best are 'Atay, Atay Atay,' 'Mere Samne Tu' and 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.'

some others:
'Neele Neele Ambar' from Kalakar. Great use of synthasizer, a peppy 80s track that still sounds great today.

'Aa Dekhe Zara' from Rocky. Ah, 80's disco. Gotta love it.

'Jano Janaam Jaan-e-maan' from Sultanat

'Tere Beemar Mera Dil' from Chaalbaaz (craziest picturization of all time)

'Pyar Do Pyar Lo' from Jaanbaaz (Again, I LOVE that 80s Hindi disco! You may also enjoy the English version of the same song)

'Saajan Mera Us Paar' from Ganga Jamuna Saraswati

'Thoda Resham Lagta Hai' from Jyoti (made better known today by the rap group Truth Hurts that sampled it a couple years ago).

I could go on and on, but I'll stop for now. Tongue

Hey ApunBindaas
I agree with you. 80's music was the best. Nice selection of soundtracks. I'll add a few more fantastic ones.
For me, the one composer who got the wrong end of the stick in the 80's was RD Burman. I think the 80's produced his finest work which unfortunately went unnoticed as a result of the films flopping e.g. Sunny, Manzil Manzil, Anand aur Anand, Zameen Aasmaan, Jeeva etc.

My favourite 80's sountracks are :
Sanam Teri Kasam - RD Burman won his first filmfare award for best music in 1982. Great melodies and good use of the synthsized sound effects. Kishore Kumar singing Kitne bhi tu karle sitam was the most popular. Great lyrics by Gulshan Bawra in Sheeshe ke gharon mein. My favourite is Jane jaan o meri jaane jaan(Nisha) sung by Aasha.

Masoom (1983) - The very next year RD Burman won the filmfare award for best music again. Again excellent melodies and lyrics by Gulzar sahab. Do naina aur ek kahani has to be the most beautiful lullaby ever composed. The orchestration by RDB is superb. A smaller orchestra used delicately together with the trademark synthesised jazz guitar.

Love Story and Rocky(1981) - Again more RDB. He was popular choice to launch new actors. Both soundtracks have great songs. Yaad aa rahi hai will remain an evergreen classic for years to come.

Namak Halaal (1982) - Bhappi Lahiri's best work. Hits include ke paag ghungroo and jawani janeman.

Saagar(1985) - Easily one of RDB's best album of the 80's. The quality of the composition and orchestration was simply way ahead of its time. Listen especially to sach mere yaar hai and you will understand.

Qayamat se qayamat tak (1988) - Big hit soundtrack for Aamir's hit debut film.
Tezaab(1988) - Best known for its massive hit - Ek do teen
Khoon Bhari Mang(1988) - Big hit for Rakesh & Rajesh Roshan. The pick of the songs were Haste Haste and Jeene ki bahane laakhon ne. Good lyrics by Indeevar on that song.

Ijaazat (1987) - To summarise, simply brilliant. Aasha sings all four songs and won filmfare best singer for mera kuch samaan. Gulzar got best lyrics. Only RDB got short changed. A must listen.

Kalyanji & Anandji gave good hits in Yudh(1985), Jaanbaaz(1986) and Imandaar(1987) {for aur is dil mein}

There were many other fabulous 80's hits which I enjoyed very much e.g. Tridev, Chandini, Jaadugar, Disco Dancer, Baadal, Kasam Paida Karne Wale ki, Harjaee, Rama-o-Rama and I could go on.

I love to hear what the other popular 80's soundtracks were especially the RDB ones.

Yea, Chandni and Nagina had some fun songs with Sridevi.
I agree about Umrao Jaan, the original with Rekha, having some really great numbers on the soundtrack.
I know the eighties weren't a good decade for fashion and music in desi movies, but there are actually some pretty memorable songs from that era, as much as from the 50s/60s/70s. (Generally for the songs that were more Indian-inspired and less western-ized, and therefore not quite techno in sound and also thankfully lacking the trademark spandex/legwarmers/feathered hair in the picturizations Tongue)
