Kareena, great to see that you continue dressing appropriately to events. (Though sometimes I wonder about what you wear to flights, but hey if you want to be uncomfortable...your choice).

Thank you for being one of the few who know how to dress appropriately for religious functions.  I'm not too crazy about the print, but hey not that big a deal.

On another note, pinkvilla disgusts me.  They moderate comments, but still allow for intolerant, religious comments.  Many Indians are religiously eclectic in many ways. If people want to personally believe whatever they believe and judge whomever fine.  But pinkvilla shouldn't be publishing such comments, especially since they moderate.

Suck it you intolerant bigots.  I'm proud of that aspect of Indian celebs (inappropriate attire notwithstanding).

ETA:  Ahh, so pv deleted ALL the comments under the topic of Kareena, Saif, Karishma and Babita's Mass.  About time. I think it was the public shaming, because I sent in comments calling them out, which weren't published even while other comments were continuously being published.

Maybe if they wouldn't publish such comments in the first place, they wouldn't have to delete all comments once people call them out.

I'm glad they deleted the comments. I have some Indian (Hindu) family friends who come to Midnight Mass with us at Christmas and are very effusive about how much they enjoy it. We do rakhi and celebrate Diwali with them too. I love that openness and eclecticism and think it's great for the world to have.

Re other celebs dressing inappropriately for church (Arora sisters!) - apparently it's because people went to Mass but were at parties before or after, which makes a little bit more sense.

Yes, and I don't think there are similar standards of age-appropriate dressing for BW celebs as there are in HW. Not that I'm defending it, but I don't think the fashion choices work that way. I think context is everything.

And LK - I'm surprised you find Kareena's dress more appropriate here, given that it was this image that prompted HHC to explain people had clubbing attire on since they were partying before/after.

HHC said that in response to the comments in the earlier post a page back featuring the Arora sisters.  They weren't talking about Kareena.  And in the PV comments, many of the comments mentioned Kareena was dressed appropriately.  Same goes for HHC--no one in the comments said Kareena dressed inappropriately, they only answered (negatively I might add) to HHC's general explanation.  Same thing on other boards, Kareena got kudos for being one of the few celebs who dressed appropriately--not just because she's covered up, but also because she didn't just simply throw on casual attire either.

Kareena's church is appropriate Church attire.  That's type of dress--the cut, the length, it's often called a church dress, except the print is iffy. But like I said the print can be overlooked.  In India, obviously there are less Western dresses and more Indian. But still Kareena's dress is fine.

And it has nothing to do with age-appropriateness. It's about the fact that they are in church. A religious function. Show some respect.

Btw - Bipasha, who hasn't been captured fully by the cameras, is probably a worse offender.  I say probably because I don't know if her shoes were any match to what the Arora sisters were wearing.

I saw that on HHC and that's totally not an excuse. These people presumably have homes where they presumably keep more than one set of clothes and can change from church clothes into party clothes. They're socialites, not doctors on call for the night who have no time to run home.

I really like what Kareena's wearing. I imagine the reasoning behind the Aroras' trashy clothing was that, "We're famous! The people expect us to look glamorous, even at church. Let's just go in our club wear!" I know that the lemmings in Bollywood have a hard time figuring out when and where they should turn down the sexiness, but I think Kareena struck a good balance between conservative and glamorous for a movie star attending church.

Karisma was more casually dressed, but jeans are pretty common for an RC church in Bandra.

LinKarish, what kind of comments were posted under these pictures in midnight mass? I avoid reading comments on photos of Kareena & Saif in general because people say the shallowest things about their age difference, Saif's previous marriage, his kids, and the fact that he's muslim and she's hindu.

I can imagine the BS that must have gone haywire under these photos.

dg, I'll pm you. Let's just say it's not the first time it's happened with pv, and Saifeena are not the only celebs either.  Only when the comments get to ridiculous levels and a bunch of critical comments are sent, do pinkvilla finally delete the comments, and even then they just delete ALL the comments.  And then there are those posts which haven't gotten to ridiculous levels but still have those type of comments.  It's one think if the comments aren't moderated, but they are.  And yet they feel it okay to publish such intolerant, judgmental comments.

Many Indians are very eclectic in religion, especially celebrities. Deal with it.

Also, dg post some Kareena pics for me... so we are not OT.  Grin  Wink

You know, this must be my Aussie influence at play here. Because I'm used to summer Christmases, I'm also used to attending mass (both on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) where people pretty much come in wearing thongs and shorts, and in some cases with coloured sunblock, because they're off to the beach for lunch afterwards. It's not seen as being disrespectful in any sense. Sure, there are some churches where people dress up all in suits and dresses, but that's more in the older generation, those who're harkening back to a lost English past, which is seen as quite irrelevant in the current cultural context.

I'd be interested to know what Church it was, in the first place, that's attracting so many non-Christian BW celebs.

And dg - do you know if Saif attended the Church ceremony as well?

I don't get why it matter whether or not they're Christian.  For the record, the Arora Sisters' mother is Christian.  Babita also has some Christian parentage.  She, Kareena, Karisma, Saif and the kids were also at Midnight Mass last Christmas. Bipasha Basu maybe went there because of Dino Morea, or maybe she just went there because she's to Christmas Mass often done it growing up, or maybe she's done so while she was with John Abraham.

Anyway, the Arora sisters aren't exactly "non Christians" and they were one of the worst offenders.

The Church is St. Andrews.

The Church is St. Andrews.

Only because unlike many parts of the world, Christianity in India is a minority religion, and as such perhaps the social conventions surrounding its religious practices may not be as strict as in other parts of the world.

An example - non-Muslims in Malaysia are forbidden from entering mosques. It's just the way it is, whether you're Hindu or Christian. But Hindus routinely visit dargahs in India, which, although not a mosque exactly, are very old and venerated places of the religion. But Hindu temples in India have signs that prohibit non-Hindus from entering certain parts. They only get to do it because they're the dominant religion of the region. In such a context, perhaps due care wasn't thought of when visiting a church for Christmas, as it would be to, say, go to Siddhivinayak on Diwali day.

If Saif did attend, I must say I'm pleasantly surprised.

And to be fair, I've experienced the sheer hellishness that is Mumbai traffic, especially during festive celebrations. Travelling from one spot to another is herculean, and add to it the crazy bar-hopping all-nighters, and the last thing I would want to do is change clothes in between. I had dehydration trouble, despite innumerable water bottles in the car. If I could, as a Mumbai elite, pop into temple in nightclub gear and not be murdered for it, I would so do it, papparazzi and tabloid mongers be damned. It would be my inner prayers and spiritual thoughts that would really matter anyway, not what I wore, or people saw me wear.

God, OT again, sorry dg.

Can I just say that I like Kareena's dress?  And the red bauble makes a really pretty contrast.  Sometimes prints look better in person than they photograph, but if I saw that dress in a shop, I would definitely buy it, if I thought it didn't make me look like a big green elephant.  She just gets prettier every year.  *Girly-swoon*.

They really need to sign some action film, where they play a kickass brother sister duo.

Too bad we'll probably never see both of them as leads in a film. BW needs to have more non-romantic lead pairs.

It already has lots of leads without chemistry.  Wink

If they were both leads in a film, would Kareena be able to rise to the level of Ranbir's acting?

That smells like bait if ever I heard some, but I do think that the leads of Chameli and Rocket Singh can both act well.
