Cheesy
Since I've been waking up to BBC Asian Network every morning, there seems to be a tradition of playing this song every morning at 7.30 (or they are as lazy with their playlist as I think). Anyway, insanely catchy! A word to be said for the Asian Network - they play about 20 songs on rotation, but those 20 are GOOD XD

I see no one has posted in this thread for over a year. Shocked

Recently got back into Bhangra myself, how I lived without it I'll never know. Current albums I am listening to . . .

- Imran Khan Unforgettable - LOVE this! I'm sure you Bhangra heads have heard Amplifier at some point. Yes, lyrically it's silly 'tu woofer hai meri, me tera amplifier' yeah ok then! But you have to love it. Other favourites on this album Aaja We Mahiya, Bewafaa, Hey Girl and Gora Gora Rang.

- Punjabi MC Indian Timing - PMC is back with a bang. Snake charmer was just a mindblowing tune. This album is a MUST buy and must listen too! Punjabi Soldiers (sampling A-team theme and it works) Kee Lagh Da, Punjabhan, Makhana, Jagga, Aaja Sohniya Part 2 . . . to name a few.

- Jaswinder Daghamia Yaar Nai Labhde - Brilliant singer - introduced in The Dark MC's song 'Chori Chori Thakna' (another song I've had on repeat) definitely one for the collection. Favourite songs Yaar Nai Labhde, Akh Lardi, Punjabi and Kudiye Badham Rangiye.

Anyone have any other recs?

Time to revive this thread! I've really gotten into bhangra & bhangra music these past couple of/few years, & I'm loving it! Cheesy

I actually don't like "Amplifier" that much (the autotuning here doesn't sit well with me), but I really liked "Aaja Mahiya", "Aaja We Mahiya," "Bewafaa," & "Gora Gora Rang."

Upon relistening to "Snake Charmer" I now like it. I think what turned me off to it before was the video, which I still don't like. Still got to listen to the rest of the album.

Jaswinder Daghamia Yaar Nai Labhde - Brilliant singer - introduced in The Dark MC's song 'Chori Chori Thakna' (another song I've had on repeat) definitely one for the collection. Favourite songs Yaar Nai Labhde, Akh Lardi, Punjabi and Kudiye Badham Rangiye.
Ooo, I agree, "Chori Chori Thakna" is quite good!

Anyone have any other recs?
Here's a long list of wicked beats from 2010 & later. I've included a few from before 2010 because they were just too awesome not to, lol Disclamer: I don't know what they're saying, so I have no clue as to the quality of the lyrics. I just go by the beats/tune & the singers' voices....

It's arranged by artists & the bolded items are either the songs ones that I'm currently obsessed about or my favorite artists (I go through periods of obsessions with songs, so there are a lot of good ones (at least imo) that I've listed & have obsessed about but didn't bold because the phase subsided, lol (though the songs are still awesome)). The items in blue were released during 2012.

- Bups Saggu-- Punjabi Hurr
- Diljit--Desi Daru; Jatt Bukdaa Firee; Dub Ch Revalvar || note: don't listen to that one song of his "Lak 28 Kudi" as it's offensive & rather bad
- DJ Sanj-- Agiya Sawaad; Terey Hussan De Maare; Mitraan Di Jaan; Talaak; Balle Balle Hogay Mitro; Chak Dey Dholia; Challan Pakhiyan
- Dav Juss-- Pat Suteya
- DJ Dips-- Nachale Sanu Naal
- DJ Gurps-- Ghabru Gulaab Warga
- DJ Vix--Glassy Nachd
- JK--Gabru Panjab Dha; Challeh Mundhia; Jija Saali; Ho Giyah Sharabi; England Nachda
- Jags Klimax-- Chakley Sohniye Yaara; Punjabi Mundeh Paun Bhangra
- En Karma-- Tohar Naal Jeena; Tere Bina Nahi Nachna || En Karma's kind of like bhangra mixed with a bit of rock & pop; pretty cool sound; imo || note: I don't particularly like the lyrics of "Tere Bina Nahi Nachna" but it's just too dang catchy! Lol.
- The Firm-- Shaunk
- Gary Sandhu-- Dil De De
- Geeta Zaldair-- Sair; Heartbeat
- Gurbhej Brar-- Chak Dhen Ge; Gidheh Vich Nach
- Jassi Sidhu--  Ki Kehne; Jaan Manghdhi
- JR Dread-- Jogi; Nachu Sara
- J Star-- Gabru
- PBN-- Fitteh Moo; Sadi Gal Hor Ya; Nacheneh Da; Kaun Nee Jaanandah; Gereh Kad Dee; Kaun Nachdi; Dancefloor; Jaan Punjabi; Boli
- Punjabi MC-- Moorni; Bari Barsi
- Mani Hype-- DC Jina Rob
- Manni Sandhu-- Bottle; Door Ni Kulne
- Mallika & Jyoti-- Main Nhi Jana
- Tru Skool-- Mittran Di Ik Gal Sun Baliye

The popular bhangra songs from 2010 & beyond: Heartbeat; Fitteh Moo; Dil De De; (& there are probably quite a few more that I'm not aware of that were popular, lol).

While I'm at it, I'd like to mention the 'artist' Honey Singh: I usually find him to be very annoying, but for the few songs I listed above that he's in, he's actually OK/bearable.

Now that I've imparted my long list, upon reflection I realized that when it comes to bhangra my tastes seems to run toward the dance/club type of tracks that come out these days, or at least that what I categorize them as, lol. I especially like PBN; I'd say that he's my favorite out of the Bhangra industry. I enjoy old(er) school/traditional stuff too, but I didn't list them here because I wanted to focus on 2010 & beyond.

^Great recs, rang de bollywood!

And I'm also a fan of Honey Singh, ever since hearing his annoying rap on Chandigarh (Raj Brar) and the more recent Angregi beat- talk about getting stuck in your head! I'm a little out of the loop at the moment, though I've downloaded a couple of songs- this list will be a great place to start. Grin

PS. I love Moorni. Balle balle balle balle...

Lol, Honey Singh only works for me in small doses. And yes, "Angreji Beat" is quite catchy! Smiley  I quite like it. I went to a Punjabi wedding recently & that song was definitely played, maybe once or twice. The song, "Gabru," by J Star & Honey Sigh, was played at least twice each at the reception & sangeet! The DJs must have really liked that song! Lol. The crowd liked it, too.

Ooh, another good one w/ Honey Sigh is "Tu Ambar Da Tara."

Two recent ish albums that are worth a listen:

Bikram Singh -  Bik.I.am
Panjabi Hit Squad - World Famous

Thanks for the recs, Dee Kay! Smiley
I listened to a few of the songs from each album.
"Bik.I.am" = one word: balle balle! Smiley  Or maybe that's two words, depending on the way you look at it. Lol
I liked "World Famous" as well. Really surprised that Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was in the album! A different take on what he usually does (imo), but good. Smiley  Also, I really like Alyssia's voice--she somehow can be very soothing, sensous, or both at the same time!

Know of any female Punjabi bhangra singers (besides Miss Pooja! She's good & I like her voice, but variety is good)? There doesn't seem to be that many female Punjabi bhangra singers, or at least ones who are as famous as the males, besides Miss Pooja. Then again, I may just be ignorant....

Glad you liked my suggestions!

There aren't that many female Punjabi bhangra singers about, there are alot more pop singers. Along with Miss Pooja, there is Nindy Kaur (who is married to a member of RDB) and Mona (who is a daughter of one of the singers from Alaap).
