Lesa Parakkudhu
from Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu (2009) - Melodious harmony and pretty production
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2roksHQ4HI&fmt=18

Found some more fantastic songs today:
"Indha Paadhai" from Aayirathil Oruvan
(2009, Forthcoming) - A beautifully-produced song with a slightly bluesy, acoustic-guitar feel. Music director: GV Prakash
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HIU8wjunyw
"Siruthoduthalile" from Laadam
(2009) - The vibrato-singing style took a while to grow on me, but I love it now- so beautiful, especially the interludes. Music director: Dharan.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1WvDNdN6tk&fmt=18
"Thaiya Thaiya" from Vellithirai
(2007) - This one features Shreya Ghoshal's lovely voice, and I like the celtic influences. It's picturised on the beautiful Gopika. Music director: GV Prakash

"Koodavaruviya"
from Valmiki (2009) - Such a sweet melody with playful percussion. Music director: Illayaraja

Me again! I am in love with these songs from the
Katradhu Tamil (2007)
soundtrack:
Para Para Pattaampoochi
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_ytad1TqlQ
- Gorgeous harp, strings, and percussion, with an addictive melody in the chorus and a haunting quality. One of my faves.
Unakaga Thanae
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ep0b9tG9dQ
- Great, understated rythym and emotion.
Ah, I love Tamil songs...

That song is brilliant. It's so lively and infectious and Shankar Mahadevan has such an amazing voice, whether he's singing in Hindi or Tamil.

I love SI movie songs as much as BW songs.
IL, have you heard Simran's songs from her hit films? I have a few copies of Simran Hits DVD that I bought and the songs are really marvelous. Let me know if you want me to post links or I can PM you with some links also.
They took one of the best soundtracks from a movie Simran made with Prashanth (I think it was called Jodi, and had songs by ARR) and re-made it in Bollywood with Akshaye Khanna and some other lady. The re-made Bollywood songs are not as lovely as the SI originals.
I loved Gundosoodhi and Gala Gala with Prabhas and Shriya (Chatrapathi I think?) and the rain song with Trisha in Varsham is also very good.
I'm thinking you must've already heard all of these though, they are so well-known (and so good!)
I will try and think of more. I am dancing around to these in my room ALL the time you know. Lol.

Unhappy with most of the new stuff coming out of Bollywood, and having downloaded and/or collected pretty much every decent song from 1990 upward, I've started listening to old Ilayaraja Tamil songs. I'm still working through the Sridevi film catalog, but I've been listening to this song pretty frequently. It's so beautiful, even though I don't understand a word. S. Janaki is becoming my new favorite singer.

Great song. The movie is really beautiful too. This film was an early milestone in quite a few careers. It was an early Ilayaraja score, Bharathiraja's first film, Sridevi's breakout role, and a film where Kamal Hassan and Rajini co-star. Kamal's penchant for self-transformation is evident even in this early film, and Rajini, before he was a huge star, plays a negative role.

He's done a lot of kuthu numbers, which gets tiresome. But when he gets a film like Thendral which requires melodious songs, he produces some terrific songs. He's a good composer, but he doesn't always get films that provide opportunities for good music. He has recently been overshadowed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and Harris Jayaraj, neither of whom I like very much lately.
The song Ore Manam from the film
Villain
is another good one.
Prem Rogue,
Found this song on youtube and still sounds good.
Ore Manam

I just rediscovered an older song I used to like a lot,
Karuppu Than
(the subs are a few lines behind). If you can ignore the hero, everything else about the song is so cute, from the lyrics to the heroine's dancing.
