read this intervie and see why i dont believe the plot& cast etc. ect. posted on imdb:

Farah Khan: what and when next?:-

Mumbai | June 25, 2005 9:40:14 AM IST

Mumbai, June 25 : It seems woman directors never had it so good... or bad.

In the past one year gifted women like Revathy ("Phir Milenge"), Aruna Raje ("Tum"), Pooja Bhatt ("Paap") and Pamela Rooks ("Dance Like A Man") have had a chance to have their say without compromise.

But now they are struggling to put together their next project or grappling with the changing grammar of commercial cinema.

Only Farah Khan has sailed through. Most people think it's because Shah Rukh Khan is there to back up Farah's dreams all the way.

She agrees. "That's very true. But it's also to do with the fact that I'm not interested in making girlie pictures. Unlike other woman directors I don't want to tackle gender issues or talk about women's right in my films.

"Of course I believe in gender equality. But on screen I want to be one of the guys. I just want to entertain. And it's perfectly all right if Sushmita Sen looks wet and sensuous in 'Main Hoon Na'."

Feisty Farah is now on to her next project. Titled "Happy New Year" it will have, surprise, surprise: Shah Rukh Khan again.

But there's a slight hitch.

Over to Farah: "Shah Rukh will start my film only after he's through with Karan Johar's film. I also want (Amitabh) Bachchan in my film... very badly. I haven't finalized the cast, but will do so by July. By then, Red Chillies - Shah Rukh's production house - will be free from the release and post-release hassles of 'Paheli'.

"Besides Shah Rukh I need one more hero and two girls...
In the meanwhile, my husband Shirish Kunder is ready to roll with his first film 'Jaan-e-Man' on July 12 with Salman, Akshay and Preity."

One doesn't know what kind of film Farah will make next.

"But it will be fun and frothy, like 'Main Hoon Na', though very different from it in content and treatment," promises Farah.

Incidentally, she's the first choreographer in our country to make the transition to direction so successfully.

Saroj Khan never ventured into direction. B. Tharun Kumar directed "Nayee Padosan" two years ago, with no success. And Bobby Ahmed's "Lakeer" flopped so miserably the cynics re-christened it "Fakeer".

Does anyone else get the feeling that the list of women stars seems like Farah is on a mission to rekindle sputtering careers?
Do you remember she said she'd promised Sush the lead role when she made her first movie?  Maybe Farah made a bunch of different promises.  I'm looking forward to this, but I'm looking forward to her commentary track on it even more.

I'm 99.9 percent sure this is a wind-up, but here's the plot summary of Happy New Year listed on IMDB:

http://imdb.com/title/tt0456458/

The new year begins. A husband (Shahrukh Khan) is bored with his married life and decides to have an affair with a co-worker (Raveena Tandon). His wife (Juhi Chawla) suspects him and hires a detective (Uday Chopra) to find out what's going on. Meanwhile, his brother (Zayed Khan) is in love with a classmate (Priyanka Chopra) who has a crush on their gym teacher (Sanjay Dutt). His uncle (Amitabh Bachchan) comes over for a visit and finds out about the problems going on. With the help of the uncle's nurse/assistant (Manisha Koirala), the uncle plans a mission to solve all problems. But unexpectedly their effort seems to be making matters worse!

This sounds like a mix of Masti and Biwi No.1 Tongue Angry.

God, I completely missed out on the developments here. When I looked up the IMDb listing the other day I couldn't believe it. SRK and Juhi as a married couple ? I so want this to be true !!!! Even though the story sounds more than bizarre it could be really funny. SRK and Juhi, ahhh, just can't wait to see it happen  Grin Grin Grin.

Choreographer-turned-filmmaker Farah Khan will have Indian Idol (Sony) contestant Rahul Saxena doing the playback in her next project titled Happy New Year. The film’s music is by Anu Malik.

“Yes, he will be singing in the film,” says Khan. “We have not yet decided on the tracks or whether it will be a solo number or a duet. When Anu and I sit down and discuss the musical score we will decide,” she adds.

As Indian Idol judges, the trio of Khan, Malik and Sonu Nigam had expected Saxena to be part of the Idol rounds till the end. When the audience voted him out last week, it came as a shock to them.

“He was my favourite contestant,” says Khan who wept after his exit. “The offer was a spur of the moment decision. I felt really bad for him. Rahul is an extremely talented singer.” Khan made the offer to him immediately after the show.

Bhayander resident Saxena considers Khan’s offer as a parting gift from Idol. “I was extremely upset when I was voted out. At least this offer gives me a feeling of satisfaction that I did achieve something.” His exit was the most emotional moment in the show so far.

“I was completely shaken and I didn’t expect it so soon. I always concentrated on my singing and not performance, but it matters a great deal too,” says 22-year-old Saxena who moved to Mumbai in June last year from Sahranpur, Uttar Pradesh.

“I applied after seeing the promos of the show on Sony and also because several of my friends were going for it.” He is now determined to take up playback singing and the Happy New Year offer “has given him a dream start.”

Khan describes Happy New Year as a full-on commercial film with lots of music, emotions and laughs.

Farah Khan has offered Prakash Padukone's daughter Deepika to act in her 'Happy New Year' opposite none other than Shah Rukh Khan. Though Deepika feels happy to work in movies, she is averse to do sleazy roles or intimate scenes. The Bangalore-based model is doing a music video for music director Himesh Reshammiya's album 'Aap Ka Suroor'. Though initiall reluctant, Deepika has taken Bollywood seriously as she has started taking lessons in acting from Aanupam Kher.

When you are popular, read superstar, anything you touch turns into gold. In other words anything you do fires off and brings you success. Shah Rukh Khan is doing exactly that.

Amitabh Bachchan did it and is still doing it, Sridevi did it, Sanjay Dutt did it, Aamir Khan did it and even SRK has done it before.

What? Getting behind and the mike and croon for a song.

Bachchan did it last in a film in Baghban . He has lent his voice for the Pepsi ad the ‘Bubbly Grind’. Sridevi lend her voice in a song in Chandni when she was the reigning queen of Bollywood.

Dutt sang a song in Khoobsurat and SRK sang the ‘Apun Bola’ number in Josh .

But Aamir outdid one and all by singing the superhit Khandala song in Ghulam.

And now reports are that SRK will once again be singing under the baton of Anu Malik for his friend Farah Khan ‘s next film ‘Happy New Year’.

‘Happy New Year’ has a mega starcast of Bachchan, SRK, Dutt and Zayed Khan .

SRK singing a song will surely be another reason to look forward to ‘Happy New Year’.

There is a thread for this already (started by "Huh") at http://bollywhat.com/forum/index.php?topic=2980.0

Perhaps the moderators should merge the two?

But yes, sounds fun, and I am glad to see it's finally getting off the ground.

Can't wait to see Zayed and Priyanka's chemistry (if there is any to speak of) in the film. She strikes me as being a lot older than Zayed, not necessarily in appearance but in terms of maturity in roles/acting and offscreen...

No More "Happy New Year"
By Krishna Jewel, AllBollywood.com Staff
The same woman who brought us the smash hit, Main Hoon Na, top choreographer Farah Khan, will start shooting for Om Shanti Om in the next few months.

The film, previously titled Happy New Year. is a romantic comedy with one problem leading to another given it a frantic slant.

The film hosts a huge all-star cast, including the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Juhi Chawla, Raveena Tandon, Priyanka Chopra, Zayed Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Uday Chopra, Manisha Koirala and Deepika Padukone.

The film goes on floors in November and is expected to be a colossal box office success. With a cast like this, how can it not be?

Well, I have no idea how reliable the source is, but it looks like HNY hasn't been shelved, it just got a different name  Cheesy!

Sounds fairly religious to me in the sense that Om is the sacred syllable ('the first sound' or something) and shanti means peace. Any Hindi speaker feel free to correct me.

I hope it still has Juhi on board, too. I also want to see Raveena again. As of late she's done some artsy movies which leads to me believe she has acting talent we didn't really see in those cheesy 90's movies so it might be really interesting.

After reading the title of that article I thought "First the time one, now this" but luckily I read the article. So yay!! I think this film will be similar to MHN in that it will be filmed in the same spirit, and everyone will have a great time which leads to a gret product IMO. Not too many Bollywood comedies sit well with me, but MHN did, so I can't wait for another one.

yes, om shanti om is a mantra used in Hindu and Buddhist prayers, etc. as an intonation of peace.  i'm curious as to how this change will still relate to the film's storyline.  Happy New Year had me thinking of parties and chaos; Om Shanti Om is quite the opposite.
